Overall I thought this was a very well balanced article. It didn't come across as preachy or geeky. However, the author did seem to be a bit of an Apple fanboy, not mentiponing that this is the way that *nix has been pretty much since the day of it's inception.
As to whether M$ has the requisitely sized dangly bits to take the task on will remain to be seen in the next few years. I very much doubt it will happen in Windows 7 but if that OS proves to big a bloatware turkey as Vista has been then this may well happen. Having said that the hardware vendors will be on M$'s back to make sure that the next iteration of their OS will be as hardware hungry as Vista has been, requiring yet another expensive hardware upgrade path.
We all know that, with very few exceptions, Hollywank is completely useless at making Science Fiction movies. I am truly scared to think how some talentless dickwads in suits will stick their clueless noses into the creative process, being their usual anally retentive, beancounting selves.
Lets face it. Hollywank suits know about as much about making good Science Fiction movies as a flatworm knows about quantum mechanics.
Will the crappy, bloated code they vomit out be standards compliant or will it be a Macro$lut "$tandard" that will only work properly on IE8 unless other browser makers hand over cash to be allowed to use the "$tandard"?
Nuclear power is very clean compared to any power source that burns fuel
Damn, somebody has been breathing too much of George Bush's butt fumes. What about all the energy required to mine and transport the nuclear fuel and then used to transport it to it's storage facility after it is of no more use for producing power?
And what about the waste with it's massively long half life? It would make a great target for demented looneys and drooling religious morons determined to force their quarter baked, idiotic, brain dead stupidity on people capable of realizing they are being sold a bill of goods.
No thanks
So yes, it appeals to the elitist prick portion of the population. Or people who wish they made Excel in to a game.
So what you are saying in other words is that you tried Eve Online, failed miserably at it and went back to WoW like a pussy with your tail between your legs, calling all Eve Online players griefers because they kicked your ass.
Agreed 100%. My uncle uses Hotmail/Live Email (or whateverthe hell they are calling it this week) and he uses the webmail addonwithout any problem whatsoever.
You can even put Thunderbird on a memory stick and then run it from that, bypassing any anti-install security that my be on the University computers.
Rubbish. I have never had my credit card or ATM cards die at all due to magnetic sripe failure. One of them lasted over 10 years in my wallet and needed to be replaced because the lamination on the front of the card failed before the stripe, causing it to get stuck in the ATM.
There was an episode where they explored the eelskin wallet myth. They had a very hard time wiping the strips they were testing, doing things suck as wiping the card strips through and around billfolds with magnetic clasps and ended up having to use a massive degausser before it screwed up the strips.
Having said that a smart card system is probably safer, esp if it has to be used as a verification for a computer login.
What does CCP plan to do about macrominers and the subsequent selling of ISK through external vendors such as eBay.
I can think of a number of mechanisms for preventing this such as stopping trial accounts from transfering is to anywhere but the corp wallet, reducing by 99% the efficiency of mining lasers while in a gang that has any member who is in an NPC corp.

Hopefully some level-headedness will ensue
This is Australia we are talking about, remember.

Yes. It was a complete pile of Tleilaxu crap.

So do you yell at your kids for making a noise while unwrapping their Xmas presents too?
