When I cancelled they told me they would be sending me a box to return the gateway, no problem. A month passed, I called to ask where the box to ship it back was since I didn't want to be charged for this piece of crap modem. THey said well you just cancelled and it take 6 to 8 weeks to get the box out to you. So I was like no big deal. Well its been three months still no box. But I've been holding on to the modem in the event they send me a box and try and get $300 out of me or something.
On a side note, the first modem I had from them started to billow smoke at one point, I called them up and told them it had started to smoke and that they needed to send me a new one. To which the woman replied "Was it just a few puffs of smoke or was it continuous, because sometimes the modems will let off a few puffs of smoke and they are still ok." Sorry, but my equipement smoking shouldn't be 'normal'. From then on I never left there modem on when I left to go to work out of fear of it burning down my house.
If Google was running on windows instead of linux would the things we could do with the google search data be fascinating or would it be violating our right to search privately?
Bravo, I have a friend who is in charge of evaluating the.NET product line and seeing how web services will play into their organization. One of the things he wanted to make sure of was that *nix servers would be able to use the web services they develop so he asked me for help, he wrote a bunch of WebServices on the Win2K and I wrote a bunch of '.NET' clients.
.NET is XML/SOAP, as you said.
Go get the SOAP::Lite perl module and you can now instantly write a.NET client.
Now don't think it is as easy as writing a Win2k client, not at first, mainly because Win2kWin2k can treat the data received from a webservice as an object where as in SOAP::Lite client you have to do a little XML Parsing.
Next step was to write a.NET 'web service' on linux and get a Win2K client to connect to it, again break out SOAP::Lite.
Not there aren't some things that could be made easier or nicer (and the SL library had a little bit of work left, but is quite functional)
Ahh well, I think it is all being blown out of proportion.
While it may not be squid, many isps use cache negines (from cisco etc), and lets not forget about nice services like akamai and ibeam who (at least for educational institutions) will give you a local install at your site for free (and at least with Akamai that includes the 20+ machines that do the caching).
even then, they only have control over THEIR channels (weather channel, cnn, etc). Why should they have to run an ad if they don't want to, who cares their reason for not running it. Its their station.
They can't control stations not owned by them (MTV,VH1,ESPN), so its not like the dsl providers can't take their ball and leave.
Whether you talk about the web, tv or print media, the owner of the media (the web site, the tv station, the newspaper) should have the final say in what does and doesn't get published.
As long as they don't own every channel on the dial there will always be somewhere else to advertise.
Whether this is a good business practice isn't important, if they want to allienate people they should be able to.
Actually I can't stand to use AOL and I curse TW everymonth my cable comes. However I think it is the right of the owner of a website to choose what is and what isn't advertised on their websites. From the article is makes it sound as if AOL/TW run websites are not running competing ads and I think that is their right. MSNBC shouldn't be required to run ads for CNN on the msnbc website (I think the article uses the Weather channel as an example).
If I misread the article to say that websites not owned by TW/AOL but that are using TW/AOL backbone are being forced to not accept advertisers that compete with AOL/TW then I think that is wrong.
While I don't like the fact that they appear to be giving people who want to use/resell their cable network I don't see why they should HAVE to run any ad if they don't want to. If they don't want to run an ad for a dsl provider on the weather channels web page than that is their right since it is their site. I hardly think refusing to run ads for the competition should be considered an anti-trust violation.
I wonder if linux.com would run an ad for WindowsXP?
I think he is talking about his supposed hack of akamai. That code is proprietary (their special sauce or whatever they call it when you try and ask them how it works) and the life blood of that company.
I think that someone needs to have the desire to play with things and see what it can do however they also need to be careful and not let this desire to play consume them and stop them from doing the job they are being payed to do (to often someone will put off helping clients because 'I'm just waiting for this new tool to finish compiling')
Except that OpenSSH supports both Protocols 1 and 2 and protocol 1 can be turned off and only older clients are still using version 1 by default. I think for a period of time you will need ssh1 around until those older version are phased out. I think he's just pissed he released it (v1) under an open license and then thought better of it and released a new product under a very different license and just wants people to move to the new non-free version.
What happens when the anti-virus you are running on someone's machine without there permission messes up and they're machine stop running?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Someone PLEASE MOD THIS UP!
yeah freaked the hell out of me since at the time I was using my computer, and all of a sudden smoke is coming out the top of my desk.

It looks like our beloved edonkey is on the list for most declining search. Everyone must go search for edonkey, it must top the list.

True. Good point. My bad.

and that is there perogative. But its not required by law.

.. has done this since the beginning.
Bah.
I guess it didn't hit the Taco Bell Free Taco target.
I was sooo looking forward to a free taco.
wouldn't the radio technically be considered a streamed copy of a song? Does that mean radio stations won't have to pay royalties anymore?
I have a feeling it was sarcasm.
I'll just setup a system wide alias to ssh anyway.
Can they claim infringement on an alias?
God i hope not.

Maybe i'm just lame, but what does being a practicing homosexual have to do with a cracked vaio screen?
suck it.
Although they already do I guess. Av used to be my se of choice. that is until they where portalized.
Oh well. I guess it was bound to happen.
You're joking right?
Seriously.
Please tell me you're joking.
