They don't allow third party smtp server either. This has caused us aa bit of a hassle as we have a lot of faculty that want to use our mail server to send mail (with authentication of course) but MSN blocks all connections to a third party smtp server and if you don't use a @msn.com type address as the From it doesn't allow it either.
1) OpenBSD hasn't been remotely hacked. There have been local exploits (hence "Four years without a remote hole in the default install!"
and not "Four years without a hole in the default install!").
2) Theo deserves a little smacking when he missteps. Thats not to say he hasn't done a great job and I think he and the openbsd team have done a wonderufl job and I enjoy using obsd. However when one has the attitude that Theo has I can't help but think he deserves a little smack when something is wrong (as does anyone who thinks their shit don't stink).
the docs on the postgrersql home page are superb. They've combined their three docs (Admin,User,Programmer) into one so it is fairly easy to use and they have a nice sql reference.
If it is a public university (at least in fl) you are required to provide access to your budgets and payroll since tax dollars are funding the university, through that you can see how the tuition money is being spent.
We where in a simialr situation. Stetson.edu is us and stetson.com is the people that make hats. Stetson.org and.net where registered and we didn't really have any problem with it. A group of students registered stetsonsucks.com, which I personally though was funny but PR didn't seem to agree and went on a buying spree buying up domains like crazy, names that included our mascots, of course I think they would have liked to had stetsonschool.org but it was taken.
Cisco has this sorta.
They've gotten an ipaq with a wireless network card to act as a phone on a VOIP networkby loading some software on the ipaq (duh).
Gasp. I know i'm asking for it but why don't they try and become the governing body MS was talking about when they said they wanted to open passport up so that they didn't solely control the information. IT seems like that would be more effective than creating a competing standard.
True. I guess its all a matter of what is needed in the class. If net access isn't needed than cut it off. If a student wants to use the net during class than don't come to class.
The problem is the disruption it causes.
Me doodling on my notepad doesn't disturb the guy next to me. Me clacking away on my keyboard might disturb not only him but also the guy in the next row.
Heh heh. Most of the classes held in the labs here involve a projector showing the instructors workstation on the screen in the front of the class. However big mirrors would be neat.
One of the biggest problems with holding class in a computer lab is that students are tempted to surf the net when they should be paying attention to class, especially if the instructor is in the front of the class and can't see everyones screens. We were considering a hardware pcAnywhere type system where a central station could lock/control/display any of the other workstation(s). Unfoirtunately it costa ton of money so we just moved the teacher workstations to the back of the class so the professor could keep an eye on what the students where doing.
Well, I don't mind the DNA thing as long as it applies to other criminals and not just computer crime, the life in prison thing is a little messed up. I just don't see how a rapist could get less time than someone who defaced a web page.
I don't think this will be a permanent ban as some of the songs on the list are quite popular.
I also don't think they are saying music makes terrorists, I think they are simply saying that out of respect for people who lost loved ones they aren';t going to play a song with a chorus containing the phrase "Let the bodies hit the floor".
You'll notice that Arnolds new terrorist movie's premier has been postponed. That doesn't mean its not coming out.
we had to do the same thing at our University connection simply becuase the newsfeeed was using a ton of our bandwidth trying to keep up with the alt.binaries.* group. Sucks that upstreams are doing the same thing though.
True, although by using this method one could argue you are circumventing the login/password of the user who's email you are reading. But I'm playing devils advocate there.
Whats more interesting is how long it is gonna take MS to fix this, and better yet how long this has been privately known by MS and possibly others.
While the topology usually doesn't change (dorms are always being renovated, cable runs snipped) it is amazing the number of ripped out jacks, missing patch cables and just general stupidy (eh hem, a phone cord and a patch cord are not the same thing) cause a ton of headaches. We assign tech savy students to each floor of the residence halls and for two days from 8 to 5 it is their job to hook up as many people as they can. Some people will have crap computers that just won't work. TO get around this we posted a minimum hardware configuration (RAM,CPU,Nic etc) that must be met for us to try and hook it to the network. We also implemented a dynamicport scheme where users cannot get anywhere but a registration page until they fill out the said registration which includes their dorm room, phone, MAC etc. The switches are then told which macs are authorized and they are good to go. This saves a TON of paperwork and gives student access within an hour or signing up.
The fact of it is though, that it is two weeks of running around fixing people problems, there is very little in the way of planning that is gonna help you get around this. Every year we see something new.
That sentence could be read
"When using Outlook express, Outlook or MSN explorer you will only be able to use pop3"
I think they need to clarify that (and I have a feeling they will if I know slashdotians).

do they have a commercial with that guy talking really really fast?
oh wait, i think that is a different micromachines. Nevermind.
You can't be serious.
heh heh.
Ok sorry.
True. Although newspaper editorials wondering why $5000 where spent on domain names would probably stir up some people.
I meant it to be a general answer and not so much a specific one.

Only outlaws will have crypto.
True.
Maybe they are trying to stay somewhat neutral as far as their stance on what the US's response should be.

I just wanna say that when i got to the page it was on hit 902.
I reloaded and it was up at 40000.

But your GET string doesn't magically change to point at someone else's mailbox. That requires you to actually think about it and change it.
