  1. Similar situation / question. on When Is Exchange Inappropriate For The Enterprise? · · Score: 1

I run the mail system for a smallish company and I currently use sendmail, pop, imap and friends. Everyone uses either Outlook or Outlook Express on the desktop which is fine, but there is one problem. Many people want to use Outlooks Calander sharing stuff, which aparently only works with Exchange server. I've tried Outlook's "Net Folders" thing which tries to share the calander information via e-mail but it sucks. Anyone know of a way to use the shared calander functions without Exchange? We're running a mix of Solaris and Linux, so a solution for either would be fine.

The way these usually work (and it sounds like this one is the same) is that they just proxy your keyboard connector. Then, if you scan a barcode the device just shoots the numerical form the barcode into your keyboard buffer. To interface you could just write a keystroke filter that looks for barcode formatted numbers.

  11. This is just as illegal... on Interesting Way To Protest Napster · · Score: 2

What these dipshits are doing is just as illegal as what they are protesting. Sheesh. In their "How to Create & Lay an MP3 Egg" they teach you how to fight online piracy as well! From the site:
Here's a brief overview of how to lay your own Cuckoo's Eggs in the Napster nest.
    1. Download and install Napster
    2. Download or rip songs for use as eggs.
    3. Edit the songs adding noise, sounds, and other info
    4. Copy your MP3 file into the Napster directories.
    5. Connect to Napster and start laying eggs

Step 1 is pretty easy... in fact you probably already have Napster installed. The laying of eggs will work best if you can install Napster on multiple machines so you have the best chance of letting many users connect.

Step 2 is pretty easy. You can either use Napster to download popular songs, or rip some from a CD using Musicmatch or CoolEdit. Pick really popular songs for maximum demand... remixes or duets are very popular downloads, as are live recordings.

It doesn't matter if you are stealing to help someone or stealing to hurt em. It's still just as illegal.

Immortality through technology is a goal that we have strived for since the beginning. Right now we can only prolong our lives, eventually we will be able to prolong them indefinitly. This is just the next step in health care.
