You're not likely to hear of it if one happens, as a general policy large companies a don't disclose such information to the public. Even the small-ish place where I work wouldn't.
I'd love to complain about the choice of Compaq as the hardware vendor, here goes:
Why oh why did they go for Compaq ? I've spent some time this summer working as a tech for a certified Compaq reseller, and my conclusion is clear: Compaq Presarios (which are the models likely to be used in Belgium) are hopelessly unstable and poorly designed. Some models ship with 3D written on the box, and a 3D-accelerated graphics chip inside, however, these models are not able to run 3D-apps without crashing frequently. The reply from Compaq when we asked what was going on: These models are not designed for 3D, so it's not supposed to work - we we're not talking to a supporter at this time, this was an official statement from an executive!
Thank god they didn't have a non-disclosure agreement at my previous place of employment, otherwise you wouldn't have heard this:-)
As far as I know, anything this big has to go through an open bidding according to EU laws, basically the honorable minister seems to be shooting herself in the foot...
I've never even heard of this problem, though I've been using SuSE since 6.3. But of course I don't really care either, as I tend to compile things myself anyway...
I don't know about the french police, but I'd trust any scandinavian policeforce, rather than having any connection to Micro$oft. Hell, I'd even prefer Intel if that choice was available...
The problem in Copenhagen isn't drunken swedes (they prefer Elsinore...), it's the closer-to-passed-out-than-should-be-possible norwegians - sorry guys...

I really like the idea of using Palm's for this, and with a bit of luck it may even reach Denmark before I go out on my internship - which is about five years from now.
I run my K6-2 close to 24/7, only shutting down when I'm out of town (hey, gotta pay for power...). As for reboots, well, yes once in a while - but only to use my homebanking prog., wich happens to run under windows (otherwise I'm using SuSE 7.0 with kernel 2.4.0-test12). I've been using AMD for a while, and the K5 was definetly buggy. When I upgreded to a Cyrix 6x86 it only made matters worse, then I tried a K6-233. It's been AMD for me since then, 'cause they're cheap and stable!
Well, what would you expect from the people who live in "the land of a million mosquitoes" ?
Indifference is the only way to go when the sun's no longer visible thanks to a bunch of stinging pests (no, not MS lawyers...).
Seriously, though, being a dane who's traveled a lot in the rest of scandinavia, I'll have to say that you're absolutely right:-)
BTW, and on topic, I've compiled the kernel, but I'm not using it (on 2.4.0-test12 at the moment). This is due to the fact that I can't get PPPoATM to work with the 2.4.0:-(
Anyone up for a beer with Linus one of these days ?
I'm not sure I'd like that, I mean, my bank has enough trouble keeping my measly account straight without having errors flying across the screen every five minutes;-)
OK, so 2.0.1 isn't so bad, hell, I'm even using it right now:-)
But seriously, folks, I don't mind these articles, as I (a Dane, and thus from Europe where many films never arrive...) like to know this stuff. It makes finding the right film at the local blockbuster so much easier - in six to eight months time;-)
When I was drafted - and no, I didn't end up in the army, the first time I've had a use for my bad back;-) - the army representatives actually tried to talk me into joining anyway. They said I'd make an exellent officer, as my results in their combined IQ/psych-test was the best they'd seen in a few years.
The value of the above statement = 0
Why?, well, first of all I know several people who are way smarter than me, even though they'd probably do worse on the test. Basically IQ-test aren't worth the paper they're printed on;-)
For those of you perplexed by the whole draft issue (no, not british beer...), I'm from Denmark. We do not have an entirely professional army, actually some 40% (AFAIR) are draftees - now does that suck or what? Would any/.'ers wan't to crawl in the mud, when they could be in front of their computer?
But to get back OT.... I've been that kid once, and believe me, I wouldn't want to change a bit if I had the opportunity. Geeks/Nerds/Whatever actually end up as quite "normal" people in time, it just takes a few more years to get there. Not that we stop doing what made our peers consider us geeky, rather those things end up being valued rather more when the afore mentioned peers finally grow up. When I was 15, no girl would even think of dating me. Now that I'm 21, they've started to show a bit of interest - just too bad (for them) that I'm engaged to one who didn't mind last year;-)
To round of this insane rant, a quote from Scott Adams' "The Dilbert Principle":
"While it is true that many normal people would prefer not to date an engineer, most normal people harbor an intense desire to mate with them, thus producing engineerlike children who will have high-paying jobs long before losing their virginity."

Now wouldn't that be fun and useful!
Besides, all durons use aluminium interconnects - regardless of the color of the polish used.
