This merger of technologies seems very interesting. However, I think there is room for caution given recent issues on Acrobat and Flash:

There is the document tracking (via javascript) that is turned on by default in Acrobat Reader 7.0. This "feature" was uncovered by LWN.net and was previous mentioned here

One web site mentions Flash's ability of using local share objects to restore deleted cookies or to store them at a third party web site. Although I don't understand the details, this ability seems in part tied to javascript as well. They provide a link that is "dedicated to securing your local Flash-player installation".

Adobe's web site isn't responding at the moment, so I couldn't look for their explanation of Adobe Javascript.

You know what I hate? When a flash ad bogs your computer down. I have an o/c Barton equal to 3000+, and this one site (rpgamer I think) had an ad for a game... An Eq Playstation one... It was maxing my CPU usage to almost 100%!!!!!

I see your flash and raise you Java. Every few days I encounter someone's embedded java web page that grinds Firefox to a halt with 100% cpu usage. If I'm lucky, Firefox recovers after several seconds. If unlucky, firefox is unable to redraw its windows and I have to issue an (x)kill. It's fairly annoying, as my system's specs aren't too shabby with an nforce2 board, Athlon 1700+, 1GB RAM, running Fedora Core 3.

The fact that you have to download around 2 1/2 gig worth of images (CD or DVD) just to get a desktop is a bit silly.

No, I agree. Gives me the following idea: Given how modular the distribution kernel is, I wonder whether it would be possible to redistribute (torrents of) ISO images of the default desktop, server, and workstation installation choices.

Q: How will The Fedora Project be made available to the public?

A: Fedora Core releases will be available as ISO images for both CDs and DVDs, and will also be available through other channels such as third-party online sales of physical media; distribution at Linux User Groups, included in magazines and in books, and maybe even handed out at trade shows. The bits may be actively pushed into content sharing networks such as BitTorrent. (Not all mechanisms will be used for each release, except that ISOs will be freely available for each release.)

Or, google the words fedora dvd. There are a few scripts floating around to compose a DVD from the ISOs or the distribution tree itself.

I've never quite understood why companies "hire" so many non-employees. My best guess is that inept managers can't figure out how to justify the head count they need to get the job done, but somehow manage to get "temporary" funding for contractors.

There is a sort-of parallel in academia. Some university departments hire teaching faculty, who are non-tenurable professors. Their main job is to teach, though they can also do a small amount of research on their own. Most of the time they are hired to teach the large, core freshman classes that everybody needs. This frees up time of the established faculty so that they either don't have to teach, teach other classes they'd rather teach, focus on just research, or go on travels/sabbatical.

In short, it's just like everywhere else: There's a shortage of people able or willing to do a some task, so you outsource to fill a position with a shorter list of required skills, allowing you to save money in direct costs, benefits, and future obligations.
