    They tried to see it but no one wanted to buy it amazingly enough... So, they pretty much said, "Does anyone want this for free?"

    Some group in the UK said, "Sure, we'll take it"

    If I knew who it was, I'd ask em to open source it. Unfortunately I don't.

    I think it's time to do some research.

    When EA bought out westwood, they let SubSpace go for free to some group in the UK I think. Does anyone know who that group was and if they could be swayed to open source it? After all, it's already no-cost software and they have no plans to see it later...

    I recently wrote an app that needed non-blocking I/O. I had to implement it with Threads. There was no other option. If MacOS doesn't have threads, I don't see them porting any time soon.

    On the other hand, they can surely get it to work with MacOS X. Anyone know why mach threads are an issue?

    I know C, C++, Ada, Java, COBOL, x86 asembly and I still like Java the best. Why? Because it's a nice OO language that saves me lots of time in the R&D department. Hotspot is really helping the speed issue a lot. But speed of execution is not the only measure of speed. You can develop an app in Java a lot quicker and if you pay attention to what your doing, it really will be WORA.

    Think how functional Marabilis could be if they had kept the javaicq port going. Now they would have a nice version on Every platform. As it is, you have 10 versions that all lack features because we have to make them ourselves without all the protocol knowledge we need. This could have easily been avioded. Also, the java version would let you use icq on a computer that didn't have it installed. You could set it up so that you could go to a website and log in if you were on a friends computer or a lab computer... or whatever.

    Sad sad sad...

    Great! Windows95/98/NT, BeOS, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, IRIX, all have or will have Java2 support.

    Now if only Mac would get something a little newer than 1.1.6. I can't believe Be is just now getting it. They were on the ball about getting Gtk+ ported....

    I guess Sun just wouldn't help em. I wonder if the recent "Finding of facts" helped push this into action.

    You can install a binary using pkg_add

    There are binary packages and source ports.

    Debian is modeling after BSD which is good. But it is in no way making a "new" way of packaging.

    The question isn't "did he exist." It is a fact that he did. The question is, "Is he the Son of God?" I put my faith in him and belived; then I had my faith confirmed by the Holy Spirit.

    But you have to take that leap of faith yourself. I nor anyone else can do that for you. Now let me ask you a question. What if your wrong? What if Jesus is the Son of God as I say? Do you know how long eternity is?

    The difference between all other religions and Christianity is grace. In every other religion, you must do something to earn your salvation. The God of Israel, being the loving God that he is, gave his only Son to die so that we might live. Jesus paid the price for us! I don't deserve that. I never will. I'm grateful for it. After I believed God sent Jesus, and that Jesus died for me. I confessed my sin and asked Him, Jesus, to be Lord of my life. I asked him out of my own will. That is what I disire. He gave me the holy spirt that gives me a peace that I cannot explain. When I believed it was faith. Now that I have the Holy Spirt inside me it's knowledge. Granted, Christianity isn't about feelings, but it sure does feel good.

    IIRC, The only diffence in Server and Workstation is what setting the registry has for multitasking quantum times. That is just a variable's worth of difference. I'm sure there are a few other differences but I assure you they are just as suttle.

    You say NT is better than Freenix, the *BSDs and Linux. If so, why does Hotmail run FreeBSD? I know that you bought Hotmail with it running Solaris. You then put NT on it. Finally, FreeBSD took the cake and has remained ever since. The reason seems clear to me. I'm curious as to what you have to say?

    Release the information needed to write MWave sound/modem drivers for Linux/*BSD. I have a Thinkpad 760ED, and I'm having to use a dos/windows hack with loadlin to get 8bit sound.     Blackdown has the only 1.2 JRE available today as far as I know. It's in the pre release 2 stage currently. http://www.blackdown.org is the site of course. AnyJ is a Free IDE for commercial or non-commercial use on Linux. I found vim to be more friendly personally. :) For a graphical debugger, go to freshmeat and search for jdbtool. It's a perlTk front end for jdb. Now go, and write much java.

    Jikes 1.1.8 just relesed. It's supposed to rock; although, I've yet to try it myself. Maybe 1.2 will be out soon.

    My Swing apps inproved double fold from 1.2.1 to 1.3beta.

    There are two changes that lead to this. First, and most obviously, Hotspot is now the default compiler. Secondly, the changelog mentioned that they reimplemented swing. The first design was really bad so they are doing a rewrite of how it works.

    I'm not sure on all these details, but I do know that my apps are much nicer with 1.3... I can't wait for a 1.3 final to come out for Linux. That will indeed be a good day.

    GNUStep has been out for a long time. It doesn't get the hype that KDE & GNOME do but it's the core that WindowMaker prefers to run on.
