First off, the government did not tell people about this, it was leaked. Second, the whole argument over Domestic and International is a smokescreen. The point is that the government is spying on American citizens without a warrant. This is expressly forbidden in the Constitution.
Well, the whole idea in the books was that there were trillions and trillions of people and because of the sheer numbers you could create somewhat workable equations. I doubt it would work in real life, but given enough people and enough observation, it might.
"That if you download it you may get sued. (Also true.) So download these things at your own risk. (Good advice, people should be aware of what they are getting in to.)"
No, no, no. Not a single person has been sued for downloading music, only for uploading. On top of that no one, to my knowledge, has been sued while using BitTorrent. It just would not be worth the RIAA's time because they could only sue for one piece of copyrighted work per person.
The tighter they clench their fist, the more files will slip from their grasp.
But really, look at this logicaly. The record companies never thought they could stop this with law suits, they were forced to sue to keep the idea that downloading music is wrong in peoples heads. This is a rear-guard action while the big companies work on new business plan. Of course, whether those plans work or not is another story.
"They developed Harmony, which stripped FairPlay encryption and substituted it for Real's own, but only after their attempts to license FairPlay legally had failed."
Saying that it is not physically impossible does not make that so. It is entirely possible that humans will never be able to make exact reproductions of some objects. In fact it is entirely possible that it is impossible to make exact reproductions of some things, especially once you get down to the quantum level.
That sounds like creating something rather than simulating. I mean, if I grow a brain ina vat it is not a simulation, it is an actual brain. I do not simulate a chair by building one.
I would disagree. There is no guarantee that all things existing can be simulated more or less acurately; in fact, I am relatively unsure as to how you would go about proving or disproving that statement.
That said, I also think it is likely that we will see "sentient", whatever that means, computers someday. Whether this means that they appear for all intents and purposes to be possess human sentients or if they actually are sentient. The problem I see in our current endeavors is that we are working in binary computers. When we get reasonable sized quantum computers then we will start to make real advances towards "sentience".
I am still confused why we need dark energy AND dark matter. Seems like we are missing something. I would give it 20 years or so before they figure out that both those damn things would just cancel themselves out.
And one other thing, gravitrons. If there are really particles of gravity then they would have mass and thus create more gravitrons in an endless cycle.
Of course I have not kept up with all this wierd new physics crap lately, I figured that by the time i learned all of the terminology the theories would change.
Pakistan already has enough nukes to have a credible deterrent. And yeah, they may encourage more action in KJ, if the US does not put enough pressure on them or if Pakistan decides they do not like the US so much anymore. (see recent civilian deaths)
The Chinese and Indians did fight a war but it was pretty much a route of the Indians. And I really do not see the Indians disputing some mile high real-estate at this point. They are a much more mature Democracy not that in the sixties.
Spot on with the last point. I have a feeling that we will see more conflict in the region, as we will in the world. But I think there is a chance that India and China could form an Asian Axis to counteract western influence on Asia and the Middle-East. With the declining prestige, if not power, of the US it does not seem too absurb a possibility. Note that both China and India have petro deals with Iran.
I am just waiting for the Iran Oil Bourse to open(march), assuming the US does not invade first.
I doubt we will see a cold war in Asia. Pakistan does not have near enough resources to compete with India, and China really is pretty indifferent to India. China is focussing on economic development and economic expansion, politacally speaking; though they are building their military, that is more in response to the US.
India just has their few nukes for deterence, and they really have pushes for a comprehensive, enforcable ban on nukes. Not that that is likely, but hey, they seem to be doing all of this in good faith.

Nah, I am definitely in favor of 6881-6890.

And others if you care to look around.
Man, if anyone still thinks the electric slide rules they must be out of touch.
Gwen Stefani- Holla Back Girl
The actual song was about half of it.
I mean, have some taste.
And bandwidth limits.
And hard drive space.
I just don't have room for more stuff these days.
Nah, one of my roommates bought a song off of iTMS the other day and the rest of the house made fun of him mercilessly for a week.
And pepsi is only ok to buy if you get liquor to go with it.
Indeed.

Isn't that illegal under the DMCA?
Also, the discussion was in reference to computer simulation initially, so this is all a bit of a moot point.

Wow, this place just gets more and more ignorant.

If they found a chicken fossil in the jurassic era it would pretty well disprove Evolution.
Anarchists do not have governments. Just people who think they are in charge. And the Anarchists would never lower themselves to lobby said people.

this is what scares me about the singularity.
From "Global Studies: India and South Asia, Seventh edition" Norton, James H.K.
Annual Population Growth rate: 1.44%
GDP Growth rate: 8.3%
The figure for # below poverty line are correct, though falling.
