Well, I recently tried really hard to get on H1b and succeed in the process. I've got some really valueable experience. It easy to put it in several points.
Find a company that has history in sponsoring H1b visa. Unless they already did several times and are comfortable with the process, they won't risk it and your chances are heavily reduced. At this point is good to remind that three larges H1b sponsors are Microsoft, Oracle and Computer Associates. There is also a lot of protest on Web against H1b, one guy even has a 'black list' of companies that hire on H1b and for which positions and how many people... very useful!
Watch the situation about H1B. To say truth, you don't have chance to get on H1B right now unless you are very close to a new fiscal year that starts 1st Oct. In other words: DO IT NOW!!
You better be excelent in your field. don't expect that when you will perform in technical interview as native, you will get the job. Be sure that all you put on your resume are your strong sides!
Try to find job that matches very good your background and where your employer can use your experience, while denying it. The classic example is when you did some job during your college studies, they won't count it as experience in your salary, but they will be happy you did.
Keep in mind, that big companies like MS, Oracle, Cisco, Intel, IBM and others lose hundreds employees a year to pre-IPO businesses. Try to give them a reason, why YOU will stay with them.
I've been on their page and it seems that they are filling patents just and only for their special implementation of specific tasks connected to virtual machines. In other words - there is NO STORY. They just fill patents on their GUI and OS Loader. Well, I would expect copyright as reasonable protection, but if there is something in these that is specific to them, the patents might be granted as well.
I would suggest to try another type of directory services. Either from Novell or Oracle. Both seem to support Windows platform really nicely and they integrate with UNIX environment way better than Active Directory from MS. I would suggest to investigate on web pages of respective companies. What more, NDS is much better for wider companies than AD and the security concerns you had are not an issue in NDS so far.
What more, AD is really a pain at larger distances and with high amounts of objects in single directory. You should really try to consider someone who is not a newbie to directory services like MS and who has not reasons to leverage only their own platform by their products.
Some education would help him...

Is UNIX An OS?
·
· Score: 1
I'd say that people in US should actually visit schools time from time... even the most basic course on OS Architecture would make him feel really dumb for writting something like this.
He has basicly no idea what an OS is. Even how he starts to talk about shell being part of OS. You can clearly see that this is Mac zealot trying to propagate some new Mac product using few buzzwords.
Well, I've read the article and it seems that the company is doing exactly what WINE is working on for some time. They are mapping Win32 API to UNIX API so they could run Win applications natively on i386 unices or after recompilation even on other architectures.
What I am really interested in, how much code from WINE will be stolen. Well their licence is playing in hands of M$ here. They will not even need to steal it as usually...
You obviously miss the point. Using Linux to browsing web when IE is so much advanced and then use MS to produce scripting applications when Linux is so much ahead in this area basicly says very clearly that you have no clue what good is any OS for.
You seem to miss the point even in other things, but it was said here so many times already.
Since they virtually can get the information, its anyway also just a matter of ethics. In my opinion they should keep all logs about all connections, but the question should be asked: "How fast they should throw them away?"
Most of logs lose their information for administrator after some one week. In case you spot a hacker attack, that is more than 2 weeks old, you can as well forget to try to track anything in logs. Unless its real amateur, you get no informations there.
Therefore I think that there should be two cathegories of logs. One that is periodically thrown away each 1-2 weeks and one that is kept for longer time.
What I know then there is already such thing. Some guys in.cz decided that they have problems to get their domain names and decided to create new top level domain '.exe' simply by adding a fake root server for this domain to all their DNS servers and tried to promote the domain to others. I am not sure if it still lives or whether it died out already, but I remember that at some point there were at least 500 subdomains registered.
Well, someone said here that the case is not really in the national interest to get fast solved, but its more the personal matter of the judge.
I disagree with this opinion. I think that there can be hardly something that is more in the national interest than fast solving of this case. There are several reasons for this. First of all several retirement (and other) funds have their portfolio based on the MSFT stock and you could watch what the case has been doing with it lately. Second reason is that this company's software is basicly EVERYWHERE, including important US govt and military institutions and if the company that produces it is cheating... and third reason is that after all the amount of employees in MS is not a number that could be neglected and its not really in national interest to play a game with these people's lifes. When you will count also the amount of employees of comapnies that directly depend on Microsoft, you will get a number that is surprisingly high... and all these people are now not really sure, what will be tomorrow...
I think that these reasons many of you cannot see behind this decision are clear. The group of ministers of foreign affairs of EU is debating a long time already about e-commerce and whole EU is talking about it. Also whole EU has problems with overproduction and need for export. They see as a help in solution of this situation use of e-commerce, but they cannot export into 3rd world countries and make business with them effectively and spread e-commerce solutions there without having good encryption allowed in these countries.
I think that Europe is going everything to catch up with US considering e-commerce and to even get one step further.
I think that this is not a question of a programming language or tools like some people mention in the previous replies, but more the question of basic principles behind different areas of programming. I would say that these areas can be divided into five categories:
Interactive Multimedia (UI)
Database (obvious)
System (kernels, core code layers)
Communication (networking, multi-threads...)
AI (intelligent behaviour)
One obviously cannot grasp all at once and therefore you have to decide what you like. I know since my 15 that the first one (UI) is not my domain and either database aren't my something I'd like to stick my nose into so for me remain the last three what I'd say is wide enough range for single human. I think the question stands more like what of these you like and why?
After reading the first chapter, it had to be clear to everyone who knows at least a little bit about ethics that Mr. Meyer is maybe an expert on OO programing, but has absolutelly no clue about ethics at all. I for one would like to say that almost everything he states in the frist chapter is nonsence and it does not apply to ethics in general but maybe to some subset of ethics based on Christianity. Principles he comes to as basic ones and with general validity for every ethics are maybe his own morales, not more. I'd like to state that nothing like a common everywhere-valid ethics principles do NOT exist at all. When you take only the few sets of ethics principles that were reported in North America, they have not even single principle in common all of them.
My point is that simply because Mr.Meyer does not know something or is not able to imagine it, does not mean that it cease to exist. I would really appreciate if he could in the future keep the topic he understands.
I think that the main problem of this virus is the way how Microsoft install their products with a default configuration that strongly compromise security of the system. Its kinda the same thing as the recent problem with MS SQL server being by default accessed publicly to internet without a password. Tell me how many users need to run VB scripts attached in mails automatically from outlook? I'd say its not a feature for everyone. This should be by default off and only these who want it, should turn it on. This way this virus would NEVER spread like nowadays.
Therefore I blame Microsoft, because of the problem with their default configuration which causes systems to be insecure and vulnerable by default and secure and safe only after expert reconfiguration.
I'm doing LAN admin for over 6 years now on a large net with Netware servers and M$ Workstations and I have to say that since I started I always had problems with Microsoft solutions, because it always seemed that everything they did was designed to make it harder for NetWare servers to operate with Windows workstations properly and I admire Novell for overcomming all the burdens that M$ laid in their path. As far as I remember Novell was silent about these things, but all the admin could experience them heavily.
But it was worth it because its clear to all that NetWare is and always was a best solution for a file server. If I would be forced to change to M$ servers, I would go and find myself another job.
And this blatant lie about Novell NetWare not mirroring disks contrary to W2k and these other lies about their file-server solutions is so terrible that I really don't wonder to Novell to go in counterattack.
And you can see that Novell doesn't need to lie like Microsoft does, only when they will state and comment on their pages what Microsoft admits himself, they will make a set of horror stories about W2k
If its true that Corel is not commiting to Wine CVS, then I would say its more the problem of Wine. I've pointed out already before a long time that Wine has kinda problem with its licence (its BSD-like) and company like Corel may just use Wine code, add their own into it (not realease the addition source) and sell it all as one product. Wine should have been developed under GPL or at least LGPL!
I would not wonder if Corel would have their own CVS of Wine and only snoop all the changes in the main Repository and add them to their own tree.
My opinion is that it's why there are different distributions. They are earning quite a lot of cash and they can afford (and also do it) to pay lots of people to do appropriate documentation and all these applications that are needed for distribution, but that are not the stuff one would do gladly for free.
Well, this article shows how much americans think that they are the only country in the world. There is no AOL outside states, Warner has no influence in Europe. And ask anyone outside US if they will even talk with anyone connected to AOL. Although for US it can be yet another restriction to even so poor freedom. But I don't think that after all these feminism/racism affairs, Big Brother paranoia and permanent brainwashing of US content providers and government there can be still some credit of US as a country of free speach and free thinking.
After naming windows 2000, can M$ just place a dot after 2 making it Win 2.000 then develop to 2.001, 2.100, 2.101, 3.000. And after some time we are back at Windows 3.1 what it actually is!
These methodologies when you study them state many of these common truths everyone knows and give you the feeling that its useless to study them, but thats their worth to repeat these things. The truth is that you will forget many of them and methodologies are here in first place to remind you the obvious. From my own experience, even if you should write your own methodology, it would be worth the effort.
