  1. Short term increase only... on "War Rooms" Double Software Productivity · · Score: 1
Well, in my opinion, this increase of productivity is short term only and will not result in overall raise in productivity through whole company. I have several reasons for this:
    1. After some time people will feel comfortable with this new way and start to chat about non-working issues constantly which will drag other employees that would otherwise work into the debate. Have one such person and it destroys morale of whole team.
    2. Even if they will work more, they will soon feel tired and start to complain that they work too much. You can go on for 6 months, maybe longer, but then you will start to feel exhausted. The company will slowly start to lose their best employees. Since the best always leave first.
    3. The team work will make the best work more since the begginers will constantly ask some questions and ask for help. When you are let alone, you at least try to do something yourself, but when you have guru at hand, its so much easier to raise your head and fire a question.
Despite of this, I think this type of work can be used, but not constantly. In my opinion you can do 2 days a week some kind of workshop where all of the team work together and the rest of week close them in cubes. This would most likely serve pretty well.

I'd say, forget EU countries and go in one of these countries that are civilized enough, but yet only apply for membership in EU. To name few: Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia.

The shortage of IT workers is same, the locals often move in other countries towards west. But the appreciation for someone from the west with a bit of experience and know-how could make it worth for you. You will most likely make it with English only since most of local folks now takes english like a second language.

For any country, start with US company having offices in this country. IBM, Microsoft, PriceWaterHouseCoopers, Andersen Consulting, and similar big companies are everywhere and usually have all workers english-speaking.

Expect to earn less money, than in US, but the lower cost of living makes it kinda easy for you in case you have some savings. Get $50k and buy yourself nice house. But really ponder to leave US in case you have some debt there...

If you will have good experience, you might even get net savings after taxes comparable or higher to what you get in high-living-costs areas like Silicon Valley.

Ad (2) even in GUI you can use keyboard and shortcuts. If you will learn to use them, then even the selection of files will go in instant.

Well... DNS is fine, its just US domains that are the pain. And even... unless you will get some change to the whole concept, you hardly get any improvement. Search engines can help here some.

Although I have followed all the campaign carefully all along and I have to say that I was really disappointed that NO ONE during the whole process asked a question: "How will other countries view US and how will change their dealing with US in case Bush (Gore) will get elected?" I think that US is one of the most self-centric countries in the world and you should definitely start to look out of your borders. The world does not end there.

I personally think that experience of other countries with former president George Bush were not really the best ones and that a lot of countries is concerned about electing his son who will be surely under huge impact of his father. Its even told much more out of US borders, that its George Bush senior running for yet another presidential term. I would definitely expect international relations to cool down somewhat in case he will get elected.

On the other hand most of Europe is now ruled by Social democrats, and in case Gore will get elected, US will experience continuation of very good political relations with Europe region.

Also consider that Gore is not babbling with idiotic smile frozen on his face. Try to imagine yourself in a skin of foreign president who would need to talk some serious business with Bush... I would comfort such person in advance.

I personally don't like social democrats in europe and democrats in US are the same sort, but I have to say that considering what are US republicans, then my choice would be clear.

So in these states (like Czech Republic, Hungaria and Poland in first wave and Slovakia, baltic countries, Chroatia and others in second wave) is the situation similar to this in EU.

The other stance is the one of Rusia, Ukraine, Belorus, and other countries of Soviet Union. Most of them have none legislative or do not have institutions to enforce their laws.

There is several reasons why english spread so much, but I think one is really important. You can learn just 3000 words to be able to fully express yourself in most cases. Basic english is something that really helps this language to spread. When you count into it kind of easy grammar...

And I especially like that there are no special symbols, special characters, just all the basic latin characters and thats it. Don't even talk about ease of computer recognition ...
