  1. Re:Oklahoma on More States Rebel Against Real ID Act · · Score: 1

I too live in Oklahoma. People identify themselves by engraving their first name on the belt.

It gets really confusing when there might be three guys with the name of "Bob". Then we revert to nick-names. The solution would be:
    "Junior" (youngest Bob),
    "Tiny" (largest Bob),
    "Billy Bob" (missing most teeth).

  2. Cost on OS Combat - Ubuntu Linux Versus Vista · · Score: 1

The article should take into consideration the cost of each product. Simple fact:
    1) You pay for Vista at a store (or OEM stuff)
    2) Ubuntu sends you a CD for free

Also, they reference the 'Granny Test' (the ones that think the "internet is broken" whenever their dial-up doesnt work). I know my Grandma would try something for free before forking over the $'s for something she's unsure of.

I remember having to blow into every single one of the 8-bit old school Nintendo games that I put in. That was pretty annoying and made me lightheaded, but it worked!!!

  5. Find satisfaction in work on IT Manager's Handbook · · Score: 3, Insightful

I think the most important thing with any job is to be able to look back at the end of the day and have some sense of satisfaction with the work you've done. In college, I used to work construction/concrete and have laid many of foundations, sidewalks, gutters...etc; and I enjoyed the job, regardless of the crap pay, because I could always look back and see the results of my labor. Now in IT, sometimes I have a hard time looking back at the end of every day and seeing the results of my work.

At the end of the day, managers need to let employees know that they make a difference; that they have contributed.

  6. Who's Watching the Watchers? on Audit Finds FBI Abused Patriot Act · · Score: 1

Due to the Enron fallout, Congress passes the kneejerk reaction Sarbanes Oxley law to require publicly traded companies to perform audits every year dumping $++ down the drain to have auditors with CPA backgrounds to come in and review technical systems. In the event that companies dont comply, management is held personally/finacially liable for the actions and/or mistatements that occur.

Are we going to have to have a fully collapsed wing of the government collapse before they realize that someone needs to hold them accountable for what they do? Is this the first audit/review that has occured of the FBI? The PCAOB, the ones that set the Auditing Standards for public companies, should re-evaluate their standards, practice what they preach and audit each one of the government agencies. Then, the government agency management should be held personally and financially liable.

Also, from a project design/management standpoint where is the 'plan do check act' cycle here? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDCA
