Not what it says at all. It says that there are reasons why the kids are bullied, here are some of the things which makes kids bullied (and it doesn't try to blame the superficial things like names or glasses, I've been bullied by persons with both of those, actually) and how they can avoid the,. This is excellent since if parents read it they can understand why and try to break the cycle by learning the kid to interact normally. Or, in another way. A: Yes, the kids who are bullying him is the problem and the ones who are assholes. B: Yes, it's his fault, but not due to a choice he makes but due to a lack of social skills which gets even less practiced since he's left out. So, either you can try to beat down on A, which doesn't actually help B adapt to groups, or you can empower B so that he can learn something which he will need throughout his life, to interact with people in a way that is beneficial to himself.

Big difference, being bullied is the direct consequence of being different in some way, it's pack behavior to pick on the weakest link to solidify the strong links (this is strictly social speaking). Being raped is the consequence of attracting an asshole. Not that even if bullies seem like assholes, they are in 99% of all cases just weak people who can't say no to what is expected of them by the mob, if they go against the mob they themselves can turn into targets. So, my point is that of course it's the bullies who are at fault, however, understanding the mechanisms behind it can actually help, as long as people feel like bullying someone, they will find socially acceptable ways to make those people feel bad, thus, the only way to fix the issue is to help the bullied people getting empowered and learning not to be bullied.

While that sounds very good and true (and it is, I used it myself), the main problem isn't when there is this one guy picking on you.
The problem is (and this is the usal situation in sweden) when there is more than one you have to go against.
I've been up against 15 people myself, and believe me when I say that socking one in the face doesn't help at ALL in that situation.

I've never gotten this whole "One person bullying loads of people" that seems so prevalent in media, peer pressure and isolating individuals and silent consent in bullying has always been what has been the issue to me.

  6. Hours played is irrelevant on How Do You Measure a Game's Worth? · · Score: 1

The only thing hours played tells you is how much time you've sat in front of the game.

This would, for instance, make EVE in every way a better game then, say Trine.
I however like Trine much more than I like Eve.

We live in a society where you can have fun pretty much 24/7, except for when doing dishes or when I work, I don't get bored.
I've got weeks worth of sci-fi shows to watch, almost an eternal amount of gameplay from different games.
So, a game which makes me play it for hours upon hours isn't necessarily good, it's just time consuming.

So, I'd rather have really fun for a couple of hours than I'd have an eternal kind off ok game, it's just simply more meaningful.

Of course, there are exceptions like Alpha Centauri which is awesomely fun and very time-consuming, those are the ones which I place on piedestals as masterpieces.
Starcraft would be another such game, as would Baldur's Gate 1+2.

So, no, time-consuming does in no way mean that it's worth more, not unless you have endless of hours to waste and need stuff to do.
Also, social games are kinda strange since you pay to spend time with people, which you could quite easily do for free.

The reason is simple. Star Wars is not, has never been and will never be science fiction. It's an epic space saga. Science fiction is all about understanding the implications of new technology and situations are supposed to make sense and everything is supposed to be able to be understood or have an easily obtainable explanation. An epic space saga is meant to tell an epic story, anything not being a part of the story is irrelevant, you aren't supposed to look behind the curtain, you are supposed to see the wizard. I like both genres, but I loathe it when they intermix since it's like my little pony coming and resurrecting Brad Pitts wife in the end of Seven. It breaks the mood.

  11. Re:Box Office on The Definitive Evisceration of The Phantom Menace *NSFW* · · Score: 1

I can't see why a movie that seemed to be fun, that a whole lot of people already had a huge emotional investment (for a movie in) which contains elements to make kids want to see it several times (it's mostly kids who want to go several times to the cinema to see the same movie) couldn't be successful without being a decent move.

The movie is horribly poorly written, directed, it has no real characterization, it makes little sense if you do try to make sense of it and it has a bunch of other problems as well.

So, no, a movie isn't redeemed since it made a lot of money, however, the reason it's so universally reviled is JUST BECAUSE you know that that piece of crap made more money than so many jewels.
If it had failed abysmally, no-one would've cared, now, it's the highest grossing SW movie and is also easily the worst of them.

That's what's wrong with todays movie industry, the hype is what makes the movie successful in the only thing which is important to the managers, their income.
