The lack of anonymous comments will kill/. Some people are in a situation where it isn't safe to comment using their login or unable to for other reasons. Sometimes, I've seen stuff relevant to the conversation that needed to be said, but people didn't want the backlash.
This! I could honestly give a feck if it were entirely text based with no graphics. I come here for the conversation and from what I've seen in the beta, it is rather difficult to even try and follow one thread.
I quit reading Huffington Post because they require a facebook login with real names. I quit reading Kotaku and io9 because my finger got tired of endlessly scrolling past all the pictures for the one piece of text on the page. Kotaku and io9 both have major issues now that everyone can post whatever they want, regardless if it's on topic or not, but that's a different situation. I don't want to leave/. as well, but I took a look at the new beta site and my eyes hurt trying to keep up with all the busy. It looks like they are trying to copy the look that Gawker pushed out to all their sites. I don't see what's wrong with the classic. At very least, if everyone is going to be forced onto the new system, they should give people the option to keep the layout as it is through their profile.
I want to know why all of these websites are moving to formats that require you to scroll endlessly. Classic/. is so much easier to read and skip over stories you aren't interested in, but with the new system, it is just so busy, it makes my eyes hurt.
I'm really surprised that no one has mentioned this yet. Maybe I missed something, but since when does the US Secret Service have jurisdiction in Canada? I would have thought that the RCMP would have confiscated the press and turned the bills over to the Secret Service. (Btw -- I'm an American asking this...)
If I were them, I'd call their bluff... I'm sure it would be a major backlash worldwide because it would be seen as censoring what the press could report.
6. Do what I did and go to the store a day before and haven't cranked up the car since I parked it. (But then, I was lucky that I didn't need to go anywhere Tuesday...)
I know one local station here, immediately after the Governor said that this was "unexpected", ran down a list of exact times over the previous 24 hours where they reported it would be bad. It took about 2 mins to make it through the list, while she had a wry smile on her face the entire time.
I'm an Atlanta native and yes, we aren't used to driving on ice, but from what I've been reading from people in Northern states over the past few days, they even say driving on ice is dangerous. First, Chicago is relatively flat, but Atlanta grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Yes, our government failed us, but how are the residents supposed to drive up our hilly terrain when the roads weren't even pre-treated and covered with 1/4" inch of solid ice. None of us have winter tires, mainly because it would be a waste to buy them to use one or two weeks in a decade. If you tried to buy them inside the city, you will get odd looks and a few chuckles, because no place I know of even sells them. If it was just snow, we would have been fine, because we're used to driving in heavy summer rains. So, just don't get pissed when we laugh at you for saying 85 is "too hot".
I felt more free in Thailand during the 2010 uprising than I do in America today. As a side note: To the NSA agent reading this, would you email me and tell me where I put my Stargate DVD set? I can't find it anywhere.
I'm just sad we didn't get dinner and told we're pretty first.
We've already been sold -- now they're just negotiating the price.

And don't forget all that free moderation we've done.
I still wish I could have OMG! Ponies! as my theme all year long...
What I'm taking from this is the current users are no longer the target demographic.
I read for years before actually signing up. I wish I had so I could have had a lower number.
Change for the sake of change? Who do they think they are? GNOME??

Please don't equate the residents with failures by our government / city to prepare and implement a plan.

The news today commented that we could have 5,000 plows and sand trucks, but even that would be useless if they aren't cranked up in time.

It doesn't happen. No place that I know of in the city even keeps them in stock.
I think that would only apply to gerkins..
That's the big argument with many pieces of tech these days.

She is one of the reasons why I argue to limit Congress to 2 terms.
Did anyone see this and immediately think of the Alcubierre drive warp bubble graphic?
I don't feel bad about not having the money to go shopping...
