Without the US taxpayer bailout of their private company, he wouldn't have shareholders to protect at this moment. With that kind of attitude, we should have just let them go under.
I keep thinking what the reaction will be when the Mars colonists start torrenting.. "Yeah? What you going to do about it? If you can get here, you can arrest me.."
Some stupid marketing focus group. Gigabit is easier for the normal consumer to understand and they don't want calls flooding tech support asking where the speed is.
I say that we should first follow the roads since it would be easier to string between houses. As for the ones who have no driveway and have to hike up the mountain with their groceries, I don't know. Massive wi-fi?
I'm starting to wonder if the government shouldn't step in to build fibre to every home in the US. Access could be leased to any ISP as long as they charge a fair price to the consumer. Once the government has made enough to recoup losses, spin it off into another non-profit like they did with ICANN. Government's role should be to foster innovation, not sit back and let these companies maintain a near perfect monopoly.
That software is interesting because it was co-developed by a former Doubleclick engineer and privacy attorney. I've never heard of it before, but I'll have to look deeper. Right now, I have rules in my router that won't let my computer connect to any URL that contains the word 'ad' or 'doubleclick'.
Unfettered capitalism will eventually bring the US to its knees if the current income disparity continues to widen. If Congress wants to pass the 'Kicking Puppies and Kittens Act of 2013', the regular people will have no say in the matter once businesses open their wallets and pull out their "free speech". Right now, we have a peasant class, head above water class and a royal class, without the titles or noblesse oblige.
Side note: I know Futurama did it as a joke, but it's scary to think how accurate they will be when companies are able to beam ads directly into our eyes from whatever high tech glasses we're using in the future.
I don't know what I'm more scared about -- the invasion of privacy from companies like this, or that the word privacy had only appeared on this page 3 times when I made this post. They already take what you purchase on those loyalty cards, match it up with your credit card info, which is then sold to an ad company. You then have those news stories where the advertisers know a woman is pregnant before the father does. This is exactly why I have a fake name I use online. It may not help, but it'll throw them off some.
I looked into it, and it's not something that regular users can get into because of the specialized machines that are now needed. I have to giggle though, knowing there's a finite amount, and news articles reporting people throwing away hard drives holding their bitcoin wallets.
This is the same company who works to break standards by introducing their own versions of Microsoft specific HTML, C++, etc. Still haven't figured out why they do that, beyond vendor lock in.
That was the impression when another network admin friend and I tried to set up networking on Vista when it first came out. It took about an hour because the OS refused to acknowledge the NIC driver.
I think this is a classic case of not knowing your market, or not caring because of the potential profits. If the majority of the world hasn't upgraded to Windows 8, that should tell M$ something.
It's hard to find anything in North America that is Made in USA or Made in Canada. I usually look for either one, since both countries have mostly fair labor practices, but it's sometimes impossible, depending on what you're wanting to buy.
I'm using a Microsoft keyboard on my Linux machine. (Yes, I see the irony in that...) Their keyboards have very little force feedback and ergonomics allow me to type for hours on end without too much pain. Still wouldn't use their operating system, though. That's not even worth pirating.
yay for BASIC. Remember the times when you had to completely retype the code because you needed to add something inbetween the line numbers and hadn't figured out to number them by 10's? And, by the time you finish typing everything back in, the power would go out? Ahhh... teaching kids the frustrations of programming early. haha
A better place would probably be to start them with algorithms in simple English. It would make it easier for the kids in the long run.. hell, even to this day, I lay out algorithms in my code before I actually start coding:
Except when you are drawing a square and tell the little turtle to turn left instead of right because your mind hadn't yet grasped translations. I hated that little turtle sometimes.
Most of the world has already signed on, including the US and China.

No government is able to lay claim to any celestial resources, such as the Moon or planets, as they belong to the human race as whole.
They could solve it by having it constantly crunch numbers, but only use a small subset of the data it gets back, so there's no idle time.

Case in point, look how well a military government has worked out for Best Korea.
Good, old fashioned detective work and getting a warrant after there is probable cause to wiretap US citizens?

More to the point, why should certain citizens have 2 votes? One as the biological entity and another as a corporation?
I still wait for the day a corporation gets called for jury duty and then has a bench warrant issued because the physical building can't show up.

Only to have your internet go down when copper thieves see all that free money just laying about?
They remind me of those companies that sell snack sized bags of whatever. Number of servings: 2.
