The article says adaptation, not evolution. As another reader pointed out earlier ( http://science.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=1235689&cid=27985471 ) there doesn't appear to be any new proteins or any new machinery evolving here. Simply changes in the levels of the existing proteins.
I'm not paying $30 to view the article and see if they have found any proteins that did not previously exist. If there were no changes however then this is probably not the gun you want to be bringing to that fight.
You can. Non-concealed weapons are legal in many places. A friend of my brother slung his unloaded shotgun over his shoulder and walked through the mall with it (they don't have any signs prohibiting weapons) just for the fun of it. The mall of course called the cops, who arrived, verified it was unloaded, and then told the mall they can't do anything about it because he didn't do anything illegal. Course at that point they got smart enough to ask him to leave, which of course, he did.
I'd be happy just going back to Sept. 10th, 2001 security. But hey, why not all the way back to the 60's?
On Sept 10th, 2001, I walked through Dulles airport security metal detectors with my pocket knife clipped to my pants pocket. I just completely forgot it was there. The metal detector didn't go off and security didn't even blink at me. You could sneak whatever you wanted onto planes back then easily.
On a completely unrelated side note, my flight back home was one of the few not canceled since it was carrying volunteers to help at the Pentagon.
There's no point in using this technology for ships.
Currently technologies of using an air bubble around the ship are already in use that drop the friction by up to 40% (article said this only works for a 20% reduction). The air stuff has the added benefit of helping to reduce the sound pollution of the ship as well.
Maybe you could try using both of them together but I doubt it since you have to repaint ship hulls so often. This would be way too expensive since I doubt it's just a paint you slap on.
Australia and the US are over chlorinated - like drinking a swimming pool.
It depends where you are. The US is a big place. The tap water in Lake Tahoe (which comes from the lake) is absolutely delicious. At least it is during the winter when I visit. I prefer it over bottled water.
it takes as much if not more to realize that the responsibility for determining what's good and what's evil lies squarely on your own shoulders, and still do the right thing
If the responsibility for determining what's good and what's evil lies on your own shoulders I would think it wouldn't take any effort at all to do the right thing. Just determine that what you do is right.
From a purely naturalistic/atheistic perspective we're just highly evolved animals. It's not evil if animals kill and eat each other, so why is it evil if humans do? Killing for your own profit isn't really evil then, it's just uncooperative.
Without a religious "God said so" to make an absolute truth, then there isn't really good or evil. Just your personal opinion on the subject at the moment which could change.
Wow, mod this up if nothing else for the research.
Perhaps if this takes off they'll have more water to grow grass on a pitch and play real football instead of the political kind.
Hence the reason eskimos can live in igloos without freezing to death. Snow is a great insulator.

Descent rates are only limited by how fast you can clear your ears. (Though there are other risks by dropping so fast)
US Navy recommends 70ft/min if I remember correctly.

Nevermind, google agrees pretty copiously.
2005 was the hottest year on record.

It's a lot safer to criticize Christians.
