  1. Simple Iphone Killer on Android 2.0 — Competition Against the iPhone and the Rest · · Score: 1

Both of thse are available through the Android and will kill off the Iphone. Not this year, or next year but as the platform for the OS and development takes off the Iphones controled app store that is only available on the Iphone will get killed off, and the Android will take over in popularity. Apple had their chance and they dropped the ball, and Google wont make the same mistakes.

Young white males are the largest group that buy games in the US. If you made games that had an ugly and smart woman with half naked guys everywhere trying to solve quests the game would fail. But if you change the character into a monkey boom! No racial/social/cultural comparisioin. Same goes for a game made in Japan. If a game was released in Japan where the main character was Latino or Native American doing something relating to their culture it would most likely in every case fail.

If you are a game company and can make a game for 10 million white kids or 1 million black kids which one do you think is going to be made? Its not social/racial/culteral/etc its about money.

There are plenty of technologies that people can utalize to make useful and helpful "popup" windows like litebox/thickbox that still allow publishers and content providers the ability to show content in a new window while not losing focus on the main page.

Popup blockers are a good thing, and adding an incontinence popup warning defaeats the purpose of blocking popup windows. If a user didn't click on something to initialize a popup window then they shouldn't be seeing popups.

Management: So is the project done?

Developer: No, everything is done besides documentation.

Management: So its done? We can use the product?

Developer: No, like I said we still need to add documentation...

I am not saying that documentation is not important; its as important as the code you write. But when it comes to a missing a deadline for a product release simply because your documentation management will not care (or understand) why they can't release a product because of the need of documentation.

The article was written well but they guy didn't touch on what people will be doing with these sub domain names that is bad as well as how the SEO industry works. So I'll try to touch on this a bit. .edu domain names are considered a cash cow in the SEO/link selling industry. On many of the link exchange and link selling sites if someone is selling links on .edu domains you can see the monthly costs for a link on one of these sites sell for sometimes hundreds of dollars. Thankfully .edu links are very rare, but sometimes people get access to posting links on these domains; don't ask me how but I'm guessing it happens through bad practices.

But why do people care so much about getting links on .edu domains? Well most search engines assume that anything connected with a .edu domain is very relevant to what ever topic you have on the domain, and links going out of the domain are very relevant as well to the subject matter. Normally .edu domains will get very high page rank (google ranking) and will show up very fast and get a top listing with very little content or back linking. This means seo, link sellers, and blog spammers will try to take advantage of this as quickly as possible. I checked some of the biggest link selling/blog spamming sites and thankfully a link to this blog site has not shown up, but I'm sure now it will very quickly.

From my expierence of learning new languages and techniques as well as teaching others who are new to web development with such techiques as AJAX; learning off a full blown app with all the bells and whistles all ready added makes it difficult and even more challanging. Many times the code can be misleading and often confusing (most AJAX code I have worked with has been a nightmare) and can often lead to most people not learning but instead simply doing copy/paste of code snippets and simply relying on the fact of "this piece of code works with this form, it will work on this form also" type of mentality of programming.

Don't get me wrong; I am a firm believer that the best way to learn how to program is by trying pre-existing apps that are around to get your feet wet and to see things in action which many of the chapters in the book touch on (authenicating users, user logins) but for many people who are getting into programming IMO planning and designing and application frameworks are not the type of thing anyone should focus on first. How can you start to learn about designing a web application if you have had hardly any expierence with the language itself. And even more so with PHP as this is the gateway drug; er language many people are starting off with in their first step into programming.
