Well.. let's take a look at that.. if the winner is one of the young guys at 47 and we expect him to live into his 80s.. then we have to cover his life for 40 years. The median available 3 bedroom house in Berkeley right now is $1M. Add up 40 years of property tax (~$775K), house insurance (~$120K), health insurance (~$192K), a new Prius every 10 years (~$120K), car insurance (~$48K), food (~$438K), computers (~$24K), communications (~$48K).. and...well, you know, a life. $3M barely gets you there.
Kinda missing the original point of the article.. Armadillo & Masten just demonstrated the ability to do away with dropping things into the ocean. Available reaction mass in orbit notwithstanding, just land them back at the newly expanded inter-modal distribution center.
I'd have to agree. In the end, general familiarity with a given genre leads to uniform gaming experiences where the only differentiators are the relative coding skills of the programmer responsible for the module your are currently playing. A couple of examples might be: an out of place poly in an FPS can catch your toon or give an unfair advantage; aggro range on mobs in MMORPGs can directly affect the difficulty of an encounter. As skill, or
... intimate knowledge of a game's mechanics...
increases, you are in effect, playing against the programmer directly. A programmer who is hobbled by the required script.
... All of their staff signed up for Clear and said it was either unavailable or pretty much worthless everywhere EXCEPT Orlando...
I am disappointed at the news.. I fly out of San Francisco regularly and it was an incredible convenience. Of course, traveling with family who DIDN'T have the card meant I had to walk thru the normal line with them while I stared longingly at the Clear lane.. heh.
Yup.. a block away from the DoubleTree. (A couple of the guys on my crew producing the event saw it 2 nights ago there)

Point to note: Mr. David seems to be pissed off with all the Geeks shouting free (without him realizing the difference between beer and speech, of course). He wrote:
"Oh Mr. Freetard, you work as a programmer, do you? How interesting. So do you perform all your corporate programming duties for free, and earn your keep by selling personally branded mousemats on the side?
"Didn't think so." looks like a case of RTFA... Pogue didn't write it, he clearly attributed Steven Poole for that sentiment http://stevenpoole.net/blog/free-your-mind
To be fair, Pogue seems to leaven the article in that direction. He follows up to address the many responses to his article http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/29/technology/personaltech/29pogue-email.html here. End result, he fence sits.
Eh.. Gizmodo sez.02ms refresh... wow.. Macworld sez 2ms refresh... sounds more reasonable
Okay, this one still resides in the land of dreams, but tell me the mere sight doesn't set your salivary glands into overdrive. Alienware's working on a curved monitor that actually helps simulate peripheral vision in gaming. The resolution on this truly remarkable feat of engineering is an astounding 2880x900 and it's run off a Dual Link DVI set up (with some serious graphics horsepower). As if that's not enough, it uses DLP technology, is backlit by LEDs, and has a 2ms response time. http://www.macworld.com/article/131451/2008/01/gboxces1.html
I do care that MicroSquish does not service the keyboard/mouse gamers by not enabling a USB/driver package for those of us more comfortable with those devices. Dammit.
Help me with the logic here: Does MicroSquish think they are going to lose PC/Vista sales to the XBox360 if they enable mouse/keyboard support? I can't see it. While writing a driver for USB input conversion from mouse/keyboard to gamepad may not be trivial, it couldn't be that large of a resource gobbler. The XBox is just not a replacement to the homePC.
I am part of a large segment of the market that has found gameplay to be frustrating on the gamepad and have either had unsatisfactory gaming experiences (which stops gaming purchases in their tracks) -or- not purchased the games/XBox360 at all. Why does MS intentionally cut off potential revenue? Gears of War and Halo3 look great! (I was at the Beta preview last night) But being pissed off with the input device spoiled my experience with them.
Anderson is a little stuck up anyway, it's time the franchise moved on to someone better. ??? Sounds like you got jilted.. Did you REALLY ever have a chance with Anderson?
Blink and you’re dead. Don’t turn your back. Don’t look away. And don’t blink. Good Luck.
who said that

We need to find a way to fit nuclear powered engines onto planes if we are to make a leap into next chapter of aviation.
That will happen about the same time as Duke Nukem Forever hits the shelves
heh.. that sounds strange, he must lead a charmed life - which is why I lepton it.
I don't get it.. that kinda humor is not fermi.
One simple change could be to make progression depend on skill, not trivial success and grinding.
.....
Absolutely non-trivial to implement and balance, so it's probably not the end of the idea. But it might be a start.
The Trouble With Trivials ....ummm.. which end are we starting at?
