The muscle car is the iPad. Incredibly simplistic and a big engine roaring under the hood. And trying to turn in it, is like trying to turn a boat...
Today, BMW will probably have more after-market parts than any muscle car.
However, BMW owners have known to be gits. So yeah, BMW's owner is just like the stereotypical Apple user....
Today Galaxy Tab 10.1 is lacking only in software(for your average Joe). iPad3 will bring iOS5(if you're lucky), definitely not iOS6, and we know what iOS5 brings...
Android has an issue with polish and apps today. That is where iPad leads.
I will go for the utilitarian ThinkPad, rather than Galaxy Tab.
Really? Have you ever used most of the enterprise software suites? Maybe you should look around at more COTS software
And since most of FOSS is infrastructure oriented, it's almost none of the FOSS is as bad as their commercial counterparts.
A lot of the consumer oriented software and UIs tend to be on the clunky side, but in most software. PERIOD. There is such a ridiculously small amount of polished software out there, that it's not even funny...
glitches and big, empty promises
Pretty much sums up all of the software industry. FOSS is no exception.
Wow! That is low.... An SAP consultant will make €800 per strictly 8hour day with half that brain and less stress and travelling expenses(where appropriate). If that person can squeeze out more hours he can handle 2 contracts at the same time for 80 hour week...
That is calculated: €208000 for a 40 hour week and €416000 for an 80 hour week. In addition to that his expenses will be minimal, since he'll be staying in a hotel paid by his client!
IP theft(a.k.a plagiarism) and patent infringement are not the same thing. If you had written any sizeable amount of software, I bet you had infringed on at least 1000 patents... That is the ridiculous beauty of it.
That's because HTC actually copied more than a few things from Apple.
And Apple does not copy at all? Hello the hypocrisy of calling 2011 the year of copycats and then turning around an copying everyone else in iOS5....
rectangular block with an edge-to-edge screen
Why isn't iPhone like that? The bezel is HUGE! compared to most phones on the market.
I can see that Apple has a case of copying the looks against Samsung; But HTC came into the US market with different phones and caters to a different market than Apple.(Apple sells phones to customers, shoving the carriers aside. While HTC makes phones that fit the carriers branding and marketing...)
Private companies don't want to pay for #1, because they literally have to think about "#1" first. State sponsored researchers spend that money in millions all the time....
And the only goal in life is to become a multi-billionaire? What we, as people of the world, have to do with the people that discover those cures should be a guaranteed a carefree life. BTW: In today's pharma world Pasteur, Salk and Fleming would still not be multi billionaires, but the investors would rip trillions...
PS: How cynical you you have to be to value all the millions that have been saved by antibiotics in mere billions....
Who had any delusions of Apple being business oriented in any way? They aren't even pro oriented these days (see all the hubbub about FinalCut Pro).
The only area where they somewhat cater to business is iPhone and iPad, everything else is strictly consumer oriented...
Convenience - what if you're under fire and you need to call in for backup? Your life depends on you having quick access to your phone. It's not always about convenience, sometimes it's just about requirements.
Their community relations are the worst out of all corporations. I don't know what is their standing in the DBA community, but in Java community Oracle is definitely not loved... The Apache issue has had a really big impact on their image, since ASF is one of the biggest Java community hubs.
There are many things which are not "being obvious to someone skilled in the field" but which are easy and cheap to duplicate once the original invention has been made and published.
Since the person doing the copying saw the invention, then it might be even OK if the original author is compensated. However most patents aren't read or published in trade magazines, so most of infringement comes from independent implementation.
Publicly traded company can't just buy other companies at a whim... There was no justification for Google to buy Sun. Because Sun had Software and hardware business, while Google is a services company.
Really? Then why the hell is there Java, Java ME and Java RT? All three are definitely not compatible in any reasonable way...
They cared not about fragmentation, but about not letting Java slip out of JCP control. Now if JCP did not require some stupid licensing provisions from Java implementations, Apache Harmony would have been a valuable project in the ecosystem... Sun had those requirements and Oracle have turned around on their position...
+1. I travel a lot, so even a 7hr laptop will not do a lot of good for me. The Transformer gets through a long journey and more.

No, government-funded R&D is focused on #0 - come up with an idea for a way to treat a disease.
Yeah.... How's that globe of US working out for you? Because that is factually incorrect.
If a janitor falls ill - the office knows about it immediately, if the manager falls ill - the office does not care...
I even think that narcotics trade is a "bit" more profitable with a little less stress. Though a bit more legal issues.

Well... By those standards Oxygen should be patentable, since most of it is in oxidised form of something....

These two, kind of, contradict each other. But maybe Schwartz knew more than Google was willing to disclose.
No. Apple explicitly states that you can't add shift those 30% to the customer.

Reading the detailed description of the invention is not seeing it. Patents are detailed descriptions or should be, at least.

Does Android compete with Oracle? (No, Oracle doesn't market phones or tablets and never will.)
Oracle licenses Java ME to phone manufacturers and Android is destroying that revenue. Though in a good sense, because Java ME should be killed off.
