There are 2 types here:
The irreplaceable - these people become a burden on any company at the end. Unless that person is one of the founders, it is better to have replaceable parts than ultra specialized person. You would probably think twice when buying a mechanical item that would need any single part to be specially manufactured, with wait time of 4 months.
The highly valuable, but replaceable - these will be held in a company till the end. Why? Because the value does not come from the person just existing, he needs to do something valuable. And these people are not in any way easily replaceable, nor is there any political controversy over the person.
I have been both, I quit 2 places where I became irreplaceable.
That was moded insightful? On Slashdot?!?
Programming is a creative activity, it will never be boring when you are not doing what you told to do(monkey coding). Yes, there are a lot of things to do in life, those other things unfortunately includes getting killed and suicide. And being that rich, he probably has traveled quite extensively, since you are posting on slashdot, I bet you are not as rich and you probably do not know what you would do after doing "more interesting things to do in life".
Well, I see Blizzard having an issue with in game economy management. And yes, WoW actually HAS an economy, though it's in a constant inflating bubble state.
I was not part of a "vocal minority", but I did find it much better having dungeons doable in less than 2 hours. I actually have other things to do, not only play WoW. Apparently you think that people that play WoW 24x7 are the majority, you were never the majority. Yet, there is epic gear and there is raiding gear, where you still HAVE to spend weeks, if not months.
SPARC and IBM's Power are alive and well. You must mean the desktop variants of those? And last time I checked IBM PowerPC processors power Microsoft XBox360, Nintendo Wii and Sony PalyStation(PS3 processor is PowerPC at it's core). And SPARC processors are used in the server market. And PowerPC on desktop was killed by Apptel, not Wintel.
All I see it that all is to ARM's advantage, since it allows more discrete processing units with low power consumption to be integrated closely with it.
US had to import and inspect bricks to USSR, just because they were once provided with bricks each containing a microphone! Can you imagine a building made of those bricks!
Individual risk is not aggregate risk. Personal risk can be calculated quite easy, but does not imply that personal risk 100% correct, that is why it's based on theory of probability and statistics.
Did not they already incorporate human behaviour? I mean they incorporated their personal greedy fingers to manipulate the models to fit their own needs.
What they should do is incorporate the institutionalized corporate and personal greed into their models. That would have predicted most of things, but they know that and will not incorporate the "greed" element into the models.
In short, I believe that these people are greedy lying bastards. And for some reason they want us to believe their models, that exist only to line their pockets and prop up their egos.
I bet they will just cancel the license and download/install option if not pre-installed on new computers. So you would probably have to ask for a license whenever you actually need one. Most people will find that very little number of people actually need the functionality, even at IBM.
If all drivers had to have that, we would have very precise rates for each driver. No new driver would have to cash out astronomical sums of money for insurance. Crazy idiots with bad driving habits, that have "officially" 10 years at the "wheel", will get the punch. The best point out of it will be, that we will finally close the argument who are better drivers men or women, with empirical evidence.
Do musicians deserve special copyright protection in spite of the fact almost all programmers have day jobs working for corporations writing software they are told to write when they could be at home writing fun personal projects?

Fallout 3 is:
PC: $40, PS3: $45, XBox360:$57, as Amazon.com states
PC: $22, PS3: $30, XBox360:$41, as Amazon.co.uk states
PC: $40, PS3: $51, XBox360:$60, as Amazon.de states
In my own country's stores: PC: $21, PS3: $95, XBox360:$95
Murder *is* stealing... Since by committing murder you are stealing someones life and therefore, by your logic, we should hold all murderers on the same level as thieves.
I am extrapolating, just to prove a point, that we have different names for things for a reason. Otherwise we would not need any other specific terms like chair or plate.

It's been a long time since we had a plague on our hands, maybe it's time for comeback of that disease?

Have you seen how much CPU power Slashdot's comment system takes to load? On my Atom N270 netbook new Firefox and Chromium stall...
In Russia the subscription rate is higher than in US. It's the same as in EU. 13 EUR or something like that.

The short name CENTCOM - does not do it justice, it should be called MULTIBILLIONDOLLAR-BEJEESUS-COM :)

No, the models were "perfect", in the sense that the models were blatantly overlooking some facts to suit some "scientist's" personal interests.

Last time I checked Lotus Symphony was bundled with Lotus Notes 8 suite.

Really? I thought it's that Android is not polished enough. And before HTC Hero the devices were so awful.
Top of the list App for iPhone will fetch no more than a few thousand per month to the developers. Without any relation to piracy.
But lets not forget the arrogant, idiot developer, that believes that his application is worth millions and blames his failure on piracy.
Someone needs a lesson in contract law (Points to RichardJenkins)
Contract needs not be written. Contracts can be verbal. And signatures are optional.
All contract details have to be obvious and concealed obligations have no power.
Technically you have to read the whole EULA before transfer of money.
You artsy types, that care about beauty of their fonts, shouldn't be using anything else.
Try SAP :) It's not only incomprehensible, it's absolutely and utterly unintuitive.
