Well I am having this problem with DVD's already. I live in Eastern Europe, we are on the border of region 2 and 5. The DVD players are either reg 2 or 5, and noone knows witch region they are:(
A lot of the DVDs are dual region 2 and 5. But guess what a half-assed job WarnerBrothers did with the 2001 Space Odyssey release? They put region 5 DVD in a dual region box. Now, I know that all of DVD players in stores are region 2(easier to import from inside EU). And I can't play it on that DVD player.
Guess that is the last time I pay for a DVD from WarnerBrothers.
They are worse than the divorce lawyers. And divorce lawyers are the fungus that grows beneath the scum.
The result will be quite interesting, because they will see their usual initial BD release sell much less, than they had initial DVD sales. They will start whining!......
But reality will still be, that people will get pissed off when they have to get another high price copy of a disc because their is damaged. Or piracy will skyrocket.
Guess you don't work in a heterogeneous environment even if it's standard OS is Windows.
There are a lot of applications that require admin privileges. And a lot of MS patches do break a lot of things.
If you are a big enough shop, then you will know that before you push the patches to your users th IT dept needs to test the patches with all standard software for a LOT of depts. And you financial dept will not have the same standard software as your sales.
A true story. Last time the IT department pushed a critical MS patch through to the users without testing, we had 2 departments sit idle for 3 days because their critical systems were down. We have another department solely on Linux, and they have less issues with those.
Hm... So we, in Europe, should BAN every single US company from bidding for any government contract because US companies indirectly supported the torture in Guantanamo?
And by your logic, you should ban yourself:)
Maybe most people didn't know, but I knew that for a long time now. That additional 10 pounds in fat for an adult male add more health and protect from a lot of viruses. And older you get, the more the upper limit is:)
I am overweight bordering on obese. The last time I was seriously ill was in 2002.
I believe that every contract has a cancellation clause. And it usually states what can be and what cannot be done. Canceling a contract is one of the basics of contract law in all legal systems. And those support contracts either are one sided, the support provides does not guarantee anything, or they have ramifications to the supplier, usualy financial ones. I believe Oracle can just pay those cancellation fees and be done with it.
Shih's comment is a very complex one. It looks like he is apologizing for the netbook being shown. And this point is supported by his stating that ASUS has decided not to display the device. And he is apologizing for not being able to give more information(the last sentence).
On the other hand, if you discard all, but the first sentence, you can understand that he is apologizing for NOT displaying the netbook.
In any case, it shows that that statement was not really thought through. And people that were there in person could have probably understood his intention through non verbal communication.
Last time I checked, EC disapproved of the step, and said they wanted the options available at the time the person starts Windows for the first time. So unless you are buying a used machine, there had to be an option to install any other browser.
FYI: These code monkeys are usually NOT a part of the F/OSS movement and contribute very little to it.
A high quality professional, is a high quality professional no matter what the economy is like.
Though there are professionals at creating money from thin air, those are definitely going to "suffer".
I personally work for a company that was hit, but the management will make sure I stay with the company, just because of the value I bring and can deliver.
Oh, please. It's one thing listening to people talk about merits of their own product. It's another thing listening them when they are blasting their competitors, while praising their own product.
Same goes with children. You can make fun of your's, but never, ever, should you even consider to make fun of another person's child.
Ha! But, take the other side. If you have a constant supply of evil geniuses at the rate of min 12 per year, you are likely to get off the hook for a looooong time. You know, till you are too old and your ion drive wheelchair is too slow:)
Well, we in Europe will gladly fine Microsoft a few more times. Not for the money, but just for th heck of it;)
The fact that in Europe more power is going to the right, as show the current EP elections. And the right, here in Europe, is not the same right as in US. This right wing is the nationalist one, in economical terms mostly.
My bet is that these devices will be produced by the companies that don't have these rebates. Why?
Because that is a different market where Microsoft does not hold a massively dominant position. And Microsoft's position will, definitely, hold back these OEM's that have deals with Microsoft.
Of course, there is a chance that the shareholders of Asus and such will force these guys into the new market in spite of possible losses due to lost rebates.
Oh,, in that case, as an additional bonus, we get more witnesses in Microsoft's anti-trust cases:)
Yay! Return it. And we will run an article stating that return of Windows based PCs has skyrocketed!

Hypocrisy is the very essence of politics, at least in US it seems to be.

Well, I can buy the OEM version "bundled" with a keyboard :)

No. A person without, prosthetic or biologic, hands has no use for gloves.

You have to spell: Microsoft's coke.(With a lower case 'C')
Ubuntu Netbook Remix is a JOKE! I use normal Ubuntu 9.04 without any issues.
You call that pedantic? This is pedantic!

No. Because they are demanding that the END result gives these options. That is OEM's will HAVE to provide those options.
Ah... But these English speakers, that you talk about, need to speak at least one more language for comparative reasons.
It is equivalent to what in English is called a court. Or in many countries a Constitutional Court.
