  1. Re:Zero Incentive for Success Equals Certain Failu on Who's Controlling Our Vital Information Systems? · · Score: 1

If that's not how the CEO sees it then he's the wrong person to be running the company. I'm currently employed by a smallish MSP and I know who would win out in our company. If the sales guy is trying to sell them something they don't need he's going to at least get told off. I would personally chose option b but as always, being a little careful how you say can make a world of difference.

Well, I couldn't download it using IE 8. It said it didn't trust the company that signed the cab file for the downloader. It worked just fine in firefox 3 though....

After having worked retail for 7 years (approx) I would say that it's wrong of the customer to be an "ass". However, if the $500 printer actually broke after 5 months then it's the job of the sales rep to contact the manufacturer and try to get this dealt with.

DD-WRT will allow you to do this using their "hotspot" option. You set a list of sites that are allowed without logging in then when they try to go to other sites it brings up the "login" page. You can customize that page to whatever you want.

Right, however, if you sign up for an account you can turn that off for your router.

Been there also and I disagree on the "just works" part. We're using it successfully but we've run into issues with losing files from some of the computers. Let's say that the admin changes permissions on somebodies directory so that they can write to it also. DFS will think that the file with the changed permissions is the newer one and blow the other one away. I hesitate to call that "just working".

I always install denyhosts on new installs. That will block access after X failed login attempts. It's sure nice to have a shorter list of failed attempts to look over. This wouldn't stop a determined attacker but it sure helps with the drive by login attempts.

Same here. I've been pleasantly surprised how many of my neighbours are using openoffice rather than ms office.

I bought one for my wife and son to use. My wife is welcome to use my big $2000 machine but she prefers the EEE. I walked into my local computer shop looking for something else and walked out with one also. They had 8 of them sitting there. I know that's not many but it's a small shop and they said they had problems keeping them in stock because of the demand.

I would think so. Let us know how it turns out. I might have to turn into a musician.... It wouldn't matter if the songs were awful and nobody would buy them. They couldn't be worse than some of the stuff out there and it would only take one success and I could look at retiring @ 50.
