I've used linux in the past and it really wasn't my thing. I still like toying around with new systems every so often, so I have to ask. I hope it has a good outcome. Things like this are what fuel other companies to futher improve themselves.

A very close relative of mine spent 3 weeks in China on a "business" trip as a private guest of the president of China. To narrow it down, he works for a Large software company that starts with an M and ends with a T, has "icrosof" in the middle.
Nonetheless, he was treated like a king and travelled among the sights of China, met the people, etc. One of the stops consisted of a hidden concubine which housed women that were in trouble in one way or another... OR their family was. Either way, that was just China.
ON THE OTHER HAND, my BROTHER who was in the US Navy and was stationed in Incirlik, Turkey, saw this first hand. To put it in no-nonsense terms, There is a concubine which acts as a type of mall that you walk through. When you enter, there are windows on each side from front to back, that house women. These women were put in this for several reasons. From what was described to him, if you do not pay your debts, your wife will be put in the concubine to prostitute herself until she pays them off. I'm sure there are other reasons for it, but that is the main reason in Turkey.
Though it's hard to believe, this has been happening for a very long time. Ask anyone who has been stationed in Turkey or someone who has seen it first hand. You may know quite a few soldiers who helped pay off debts, I'm sure.
The good thing about any OS and patching is that they're at least addressing the situation and making it a bit harder for the system to be compromised. Of course, like you said, there will always be vulnerabilities... and hopefully with each patch, the complexity of exploiting them will gain. Though.. new software always seems to make people start from scratch. I don't understand why Microsoft didn't start their new OS solely on the 2003 architecture, with small additions and speed gains.. rather than what they decided on. Hopefully the security will tighten up, but I still don't see it being as tight as '03.

It's a great idea, and it would definitely gain more voters who hate fighting the irate crowds... and avoiding bombs. It would be nice if the US actually had an OS that was secure enough to support something like this. Unfortunately, they can't even keep their own computer voting booths secure, let alone one on the internet.
