  1. SVG on New Technique for Tracking Web Site Visitors · · Score: 3, Insightful

I think it's time for SVG to replace flash for our vector animation needs. It can be lightweight (in it's gzipped form), and doesn't have delusions of grander about being an application development environment (which flash does rather poorly). It's nice to see that SVG is making head-ways in Linux (especially KDE) and the mobile market, but we need to get the word out to the general populace (or, at least, web developers).

  2. Re:What about readability? on Searching for the Best Scripting Language · · Score: 1

While the first might be more readable, it's not equivelant. The original regex would match all of "abc&def&foo(something1234)" whereas your suggested regex would ignore the initial "abc&". This does point out the need to comment your regexes so that others can know what they're supposed to do, despite what they actually do. Perl 6 will hopefully aid in this as it will have extended regular expressions as the default, meaning that whitespace is ignored and you can have comments within the expression itself.

I remember playing Tetris on the Mac way back when. Is there a list somewhere of all the songs in the original game (not the gameboy version that came later). I recognized a couple, like the Nutcracker Suite, but not most of the others.

A better solution is to have a system where an application can issue a request to the OS to display content of a given type. Then you could have multiple implementations of these viewer/editors and each user could choose the one the like best without any changes being made to the application making the request. The OS would simply maintain a database of the viewer/editors and any application would register itself upon installation. Windows already has this type of setup to determine what application to launch for a given file (including downloaded ones). So why not use it for "View Source"?

  7. Re:Problem with the first disc on TRON 20th Anniversary Edition DVD Reviewed · · Score: 1

If you look really closely, there is a pixel (or so) that doesn't look right (white when it should be blueish). My guess is that this is the source of the problem. When I played it on my computer (Mac), there was a portion of the image that was misaligned by the error. This has done nothing to improve Disney's track record on DVD, "The Emporer's New Groove" special edition simply wouldn't play portions of the disc on thre PS2, at least they're decent when it comes to returns.

  8. Problem with the first disc on TRON 20th Anniversary Edition DVD Reviewed · · Score: 5, Informative

I was really excited about this edition and bought it shortly after its release. Unfortunately, there is a flaw in the disc which makes it unplayable on a PS2. In the eighth scene, during a conversation in the holding cell, there as a graphic error that causes a PS2 to totally flip out. Fortunately for everyone with a real DVD player, this is a small enough glitch to go unnoticed on all but the PS2. I did try returning the disc, but the replacement had the exact same flaw and when I took it back again, they guy at the store said there had been complaints at other stores.

The movie is great, if you can get it to play, and the special features are nice. My favorite part of the disc is the menus. I will try purchasing this edition again when either Sony updates their DVD drivers to address issues like this or Disney re-issues the disc with a new master (to remove the flaw).

I had heard that AIX 5L was in fact a flavor of Linux from IBM designed to replace AIX. This would mean that AIX does equal Linux, right?

  10. Myst III: Exile is great. on Myst III: Exile Review · · Score: 1

Let me say that I had no problems with the game and think it's awesome. I bought the collectors edition which comes with much more tha is listed in the above review and has a manual in the CD case. The game installed like a dream and runs great. I also should add that I'm running on a Mac which greatly simplifies everything, double-click to install, double-click to run.
