"Verizon says it will dispatch a technician to try to assist her accessing the internet without using the Windows-only installation disk. Verizon says its high-speed internet does indeed support Ubuntu, but some advanced features and installation disks clearly don't work with Linux."
Oh this should be good... I like comparison posts...
> Really, if you've ever had kids, you already have all the skills you need to manage engineers. Set clear expectations and priorities. Make sure they play nice with each other.
Good point... Yes programmers and kids both need to play nice together.
> Give them a shiny new toy when they've been good.
Yes! Kids like toys and programmers like toys/electronics.
>Good managers filter out the pressure and bullshit and only on passes on information that gives the programmers a good idea of what their goals and priorities should be. Bad managers just pass on the shitting on they get from their managers along to their underlings, sometimes even amplifying it.
Wait.. what Kindergarten is this? I thought the managers were teachers and there were kindergarten students... and who is shitting on them?
Please everyone, do not shit on kindergarten teachers or students!
For those that think this thing started during the Bush era... The NYTimes predicted this bail-out in an article written in 1999.

Is there anyone that thinks giving mortgages to people that shouldn't qualify was a Republican agenda? You can try to blame the Republicans for not putting an end to it (which they tried to), but I find it extremely stupid to blame them for it.
Obviously your friends are part of a vast government conspiracy to gather information on everyone. Google, facebook and the whole interweb is in on the plot...
You are one of the few remaining water bag left to index and your friends are doing their best to integrate you into the collective.

I'm involved in way too many projects, and all of them are suffering desparately to get some more time and love by me. But I'm constantly thrashed and just only have a limited number of timeslices available.
Get back to work, you slacker, and stop spending so much time on Slashdot!
I have Comcast, and can change my MAC Address without issue.
1. Change MAC
2. Reset cable modem
3. Back online, albeit with new IP address.
At least in my area, they have abandoned their static MAC table.
What is the world coming to when you can't even build a souped-up small-engine-powered office chair to take on the road? I'm sure they were just trying to save the environment by increasing gas efficiency.
Bull$&*t... I just bought 9 Latitude D630 laptops and the Vista Business edition includes downgrade to XP free. Upgrade from Vista Home to Business costs $99, but Vista Business with XP is the same price as Vista Business without XP. If you want, you can complain about nobody offering Vista Home downgrade to XP Home.
Someone mentioned that Apple's delay was due to the patch causing a problem with some environment... Maybe Apple had to take the extra time to get it right.
I would have preferred that Redhat did as well... The Redhat ES 4 patch for BIND left a couple of my DNS domains offline for a few hours.
The free VMWare Server has single snapshot capability where you can create a snapshot and either revert to it or create another snapshot to replace it.
Back in high school, we used to mix Styrofoam and gasoline. Then go out to the desert, pour a couple of gallons of gas in a waste basket and start chucking in the Styrofoam. Pour our the resulting sludge and light. It burns hot and burns for a long time.
Yes.. Outlook has the ability to send emails for any such messages. Outlook is part of MS Office, so just make sure you have that installed.

> Richard Gear's house
Names have been changed to protect the innocent... I swear it wasn't a misspelling. (Yeah, that's the ticket)
I have never been a fan of monitoring employee activity. Employees should be measured by output, not by how often they spin their gerbil wheels.
Not sure how I got into the gerbil analogy, but I'll continue with it.
Gerbil 1 runs his wheel all day and is slow... Generates 5000 revolutions per day.
Gerbil 2 runs his wheel half the day but is fast enough that he generates 6500 revolutions.
If I were to monitor these gerbils I would be disappointed by Gerbil 2's work ethic.
If you could only keep one gerbil and send the other to Richard Gear's house, which one would you keep?
The video capture delay will introduce too much latency to make pretty much any game unplayable.
You are monitoring productivity and you want to introduce XBox 360's? Seems like two ideas that don't mix.
What the heck kind of company would use cash for an acquisition? My company has bought up a few tiny companies... it is all done with stock.

Does this new WINE allow me to play World of Warcraft on it?
POP is fundamentally broken, so most Exchange admins don't want to encourage users to use it. Use IMAP, your admin will be more likely to enable that.
You must comply with this EULA^H^H^H^HLicense agreement.

Most routers these days let you assign or clone a MAC address. If you find your MAC address on the list, change it.
I find it detestable that we are doing these kinds of experiments on water bears!
We need to protest... I will start a campaign!

In Zimbabwe, each laptop would cost 10 trillion.
Hi everyone... We just found this post.
Wanted to let you know that Comcast is striving to improve the customer experience for all of its customers...
We love you!
In his next prison sentence, his inbox will be stuffed and it will probably be unsolicited.
No SSL123 is not extended validation.. but I don't think we were talking about getting a free extended validation cert...
This discussion is about how to get a free SSL cert that will be recognized by Firefox (and other major browsers).

That is essentially homemade Napalm...
