What scares me about this is that people have such a short attention span and are pretty much indifferent to these attempts that they are liable to pass without any contest.
We certainly can't count on the Gov't or our Industry peers to have our back, and so it's up to us to protest. However, how many people are actually going to quit the carrier in protest..I'd wager not too many.
That is precisely what I am suggesting, and trying to do so without some labeling me a "conspiracy theroist", hehe.
Smoke and mirrors have worked very very well for the Bush agenda, and I have no doubt that it is still a prime means of dealing with issues. People are easily distracted in todays society and for the most part many of us have the concentration and focus of caffeinated monkeys with ADHD.
So many newsworthy stories have been buried because of just this type of maneuver.
People are tired and worn out, they are too busy to care anymore and that's the way the big corporations and the Gov't like it.
There are just too many things going on for people to protest, or complain about, and this lack of caring is a direct result of todays Corporate and Social pressures on the working class of people.
I bought a brand new Alienware gaming machine that came pre-installed with Vista, I lasted roughly 4 days before I took it off and replaced it with a dual boot of XP and Ubuntu. Now, I have every system in my house running Ubuntu, and only my gaming machine that still has a Windows OS on it. I can do more with my Ubuntu installs with less than I could with XP.
I'm a convert. I also spread the gospel to all of my friends and so far I have converted many of them. The word is out...Microcrap isn't the only game in town anymore.
If the ads are low-key, then they don't really bother me. So why shouldn't I help a company I like make a little extra money? I disagree. Ads are intrusive in a game in which many people play to escape and relax. We pay a monthly fee and we shouldn't be subjected to more advertisements. It's hard enough to deal with commercials on television that are twice the normal sound level than the show. Not to mention the majority of your time is spent being bombarded by advertisements. If we start down this path, eventually it will be the same as television, you'll have 10 minutes of actual play time, and 20 minutes of ad's.
I'm a noob Linux user, recently dropped a home WinXP/Server2003 network in favour of Ubuntu Feisty. From my perspective the Windows OS works right out of the box without too many issues. Installing hardware, software, and accessories is a piece of cake. Of course one of the largest reasons Windows is popular....GAMING.
Now, with my switch over to Ubuntu I had many issues that I had to deal with. My printer wouldn't print, couldn't use my webcam, my external hard drive wouldn't mount properly, my NVidia drivers were gimped, no native higher resolutions, and many of the applications I wanted to use continually crashed on me.
Suffice as to say, I'm still using Ubuntu because it's my opinion it is far superior to Windows in almost every way, but there is a MUCH higher learning curve, and you are limited to what you can do with it.

I'm a brand new Linux user, I chose Ubuntu because I heard it was much easier to use than other distro's, and now I'm addicted to it.
I am currently dual-booting with Windows XP (required for work), but I'd love to be able to do exactly what you have set up (VMWare), but I have no clue even where to start. If anyone could offer some steps, I'd appreciate it.

The point being made I believe is that Microsoft has not complied yet, they are still hedging.
