  1. Encription's physical world analogy on Nasty Bad Men Are Using Encryption · · Score: 1

Gee, do you think criminals also use locks on the doors of their hideouts?

Perhaps some legislation to ban door locks as well, because the scary criminals are using them to do bad deeds behind closed doors.

  2. Newspapers will never die. on Would You Ever Read A Newspaper Again? · · Score: 1

I'm most certain that the same discussions took place with the advent of television and television news. Sure newspaper subscriptions may have grown smaller, but I cannot take my television on the subway for the morning commute.

The advantage of the web is it provides instaneous news from around the world. But that's also its vice, because I cannot look on slashdot to see if the bridge I cross on my way to work will have construction delays. I also cannot find the other unique local information that newspapers can provide.

Plus, the crossword puzzles are not the same online and the comics take more effort to get.

I'll still keep my subscription, and continue to savor Sunday afternoons digging through the monster sunday edition.

  4. Get off your high horse Scott Kurtz!! on Scott Kurtz Blasts Comic Strips on Tech Support · · Score: 1

There's a big difference between a comic strip and laughing at a person. If someone in tech support laughs at a new user that's pretty shameful. But a comic strip? Come on!!! If that's the case then we should have burnt Comedy Central to the ground because I'm more than sure that South Park has offended everyone on the planet in some way or another. The guy is just trying to get publicity for his strip. What, did he somehow become the oracle of comic strips?? Uh-huh.

  5. Re:trademark infringement and dilution on What to do when your Domain is Threatened? · · Score: 1
Another thing to consider, which potentially weakens their stance, is other businesses which have the Purdue name, but are unrelated to Purdue University. (I'm not talking domain names, but business names outside of the Internet.) The Purdue brand for chicken comes to mind. In other words, if Purdue is associated with several well-known businesses then the University's claim to anything with "Purdue" in it is greatly weakened. Since your site deals directly with the Purdue University, I'm not sure how much this counts.

No offense, but the chicken company is Perdue, not Purdue. I don't think there is a big company out there that uses Purdue as its name. So that kills the evenly defensed trademark issue. The way I remember things, even departments within the university had to get permission to use the seal. So Purdue is pretty psycho about protecting their name.
