I've been a slashdot user for many years, and I don't look anything like that picture. But you know what, my life is full enough for it not to bother me.
I thought the slashdot thing was amusing, and it's really not supposed to be taken so seriously.
Oh, and for the people that moan about ads. Come on, this is how the net works. Companies provide free content, which they pay for with adverts. It's not a new model, and bitching about it is a bit like moaning about having to watch ads on live TV.
If you don't like it, some tech savyy geeks like you should be able to work adblock.
