Dudes, He's a DICTATOR. If he doesn't want to change his password, what do you think will happen if you tell him "Mr. Assad, you can't log on until you change your password." a) He says "Oh, yes, thank you for helping me to remember how to protect the information of the Syria Arab Republic. You're a hero of the Republic. Here's your million dollars." b) He says "Screw you, who's the President here, you or me?" And then you find yourself as a street cleaner in Homs wearing safety orange.

  7. By Design on Why Doesn't Microsoft Have A Cult Religion? · · Score: 1

Looking at the premise of the article seriously, there is something here. The author quotes Rob Enderle saying it was there "up until 1995". Well, 1995 is when the legal troubles started and culminated in Gates essentially stepping aside and handing things over to Ballmer. Anyone who's tracked closely I think will agree that it's pretty clear that the legal troubles made things "not fun" anymore for Gates and so the passion that he injected into everything disappeared. Enter Ballmer. Despite his jumping and other foolish antics, Ballmer doesn't inspire passion. And, his stated image for the company is to make it like GE. There's another company that entirely lacks any sort of passion around it. They're everywhere but I defy you to find a "GE fan". So, really, it's by design.

  9. Not Surprised on AT&T Dumps VOIP Customers · · Score: 4, Interesting

Over the past 10 years, I've had utterly horrible service with anything with the AT&T letters in it. Cable, cell and long distance. I spent 2 months fighting with their cable people over service problems, had horrible customer service in 2 years of AT&T wireless and, the kicker, had the joy of learning in the midst of a family crisis while out of the country that they cancelled my calling card mysteriously and then had the gall to claim that I NEVER HAD ONE! Even though I was (and still am right now) looking at the card they sent me in 1999. So, if I'm surprised it's that they even bothered to tell people they were doing this. I would've expected them to cut service off with no warning and continue to bill people and refuse to stop billing or to refund for charges rendered after service was cut off. Or, maybe that's coming?

  10. Contrast on The SEC Is Getting Closer To Jobs · · Score: 1

Suggest Apple without Jobs: The world panics. Suggest Microsoft without Gates: The world says "yeah, and what changes?" So, yeah, Jobs is cooler than Gates that way. But: which company will survive the loss of the Megalomanianical leader? Maybe Gates is cooler that way? He's dispensible (sorta....once you get rid of Ballmer....ass).
