Come now, the ten commandments are the end of the mosaic law, they're just the general guidelines. Leviticus would be more comparable to todays laws, and it's really interesting to read how much detail it goes into (specifying which family relationships you can and can't have a "relationship" with and when it's okay and not okay to murder). That makes for a much more interesting comparison.

The labels control the radio and most if not all of the traditional channels that people get their music from. If the labels control who knows about the artists, then only the artists that sign with labels will get known. The only artists that have been able to be successful without being whores of the executives are those people who used to be whores but got popular enough that they were able to break away. I don't see any reason this will change in the near future.

That's a bullshit excuse they've thrown around for a while, and it's simply not true. You can turn the memory usage on those features down and firefox still slowly creeps up to using as much memory as it can, and this is without any addons whatsoever. So, either firefox ignores configuration settings or it's a memory leak.

That was perhaps the stupidest scene in what was a very stupid episode of a stupid, stupid show. I would recommend that, in the future, you not invoke TV series as an argument, especially not ones made for cable.

To answer your question, a fake electronic gadget, one that does nothing and hurts no one, has blinking LEDs, an obvious circuit board, and no wires going from said blinking lights and circuit board to the "putty" and/or "play-doh" in her hands. If you want to make a real bomb look like a fake bomb, you're an idiot, because it still looks like a bomb. Disguise it as something else, like the jacket you're wearing, or a backpack, or an alarm clock, or anything else that doesn't make people look at it and wonder if it's a bomb.

Sending the message that "good" engineers are the ones who'll stay all night is exactly what keeps people who value life balance out of fields like engineering. Such a culture doesn't just tend to exclude women, but also people from non-anglo cultures that value family. Perhaps invoking prejudices against white males isn't the most productive thing we could do in this discussion. The only people I know who worked long hours without a fight were those who had very, very good reasons to do so, including having a stake in the company or having a family to feed that they couldn't do any other way. Fighting prejudice and hostility towards other races and sexes isn't an excuse to reinforce prejudices and induce hostility towards other sexes.
