I am sorry, but if the gamecube controller is your favorite controller to date, then I would not put much faith into your controller expertise.
What is it with Nintendo and their gimmicky controllers? I have owned every single Nintendo console (except handhelds), and their controllers have gotten progressively worse. The NES controller was great, and so was the SNES controller. The N64 controller was okay...it had a lot of buttons, and took some getting used to, but the awesome games for the N64 sorta made up for it.
Then there's the Gamecube controller...oh man, the gamecube controller. First off, the things do not last. They're built like crap. Not to mention they look like they were designed by a guy with Tourette's (although I may be insulting people with Tourette's everywhere by saying this). There are random buttons in the stupidest places, they turned the c-buttons into some whacked out half-joystick, and you have to push the L and R buttons about 8 feet into the controller before they register.
The Wii controller is kinda...bleh. The entire console is designed around the controller, and it works great for Wii sports and similar games. Smash, though, looks iffy. It's like a backwards step technologically. There are half as many buttons available to you, you're stuck with a D-pad instead of a joystick, and the 'throw' button is hard to reach. Not to mention the lack of ergonomics (which is important when you play as much Smash as I do).
I'll probably end up using the classic controller for Smash. It looks like they're struggling to make do with the lack of buttons on the standard Wiimote.
I bought the PS3 when it was $600, and I got the warranty. I'd better cash in on that before the 60 gig PS3's are gone, because when I can get a 500 gigabyte hard drive for the same price difference between the two PS3's, I can't really justify getting the 80 gig.
And who really gives a shit about MotorStorm?
Well obviously all mp3 players support drm-free files. But you can't get music on your iPod from Rhapsody, Napster, Urge, or any other music download service.
And it was awesome. You could log on and download their entire database if you wanted to. Just pay for one month, and download away.
Of course, now that piracy is a big issue, I'm sure it works differently. And it's no surprise the iPhone is excluded...iPods have always had a closed system preventing you from using music from any music service other than iTunes. And why would Apple ever change that? They dominate the mp3 market. By opening up their system, all they'd be doing is saying to emusic "Here, help yourself to the profits of our monopoly!"
That said, there's nothing to stop iPhone owners from signing up for emusic independent of AT&T and putting the DRM-Free mp3 files on their iPhones.
You're right from the business perspective.
From the consumer's perspective, if there's always someone in that store annoying you, you would probably just stop going to that store.
You're right that there are way too many idiot kids who play these games. And I agree it can be annoying.
I just think that Colleen Hannon is another whiner who thinks censorship will solve problems. No one ever said you had to accept being called a fag. But when someone does call you a fag, do you call the police and say you're being harrassed, or do you just pass off that guy as a loser?
You learn to solve the problems yourself and deal with it. What we don't need is more whiny people trying to get the powers that be (in this case, SOE, Blizzard, Yahoo chat mods) to "crack down" or "do something about it".
This is true. If you can't take it, the "Exit" button is right there. That's something that's not there in real life.
So there's one reason we should put up with it on the internet even though it's not acceptable in real life.
The first time you log into an MMO on a PvP server, you get ganked, and you think to yourself "Wow, that was rude and unnecessary!" So you spend 20 minutes arguing with the guy who ganked you and it turns into a "Who's a bigger fag" argument.
The more times you get ganked, the less you take it personally. The more times you get insulted on an MMO, the less you take it personally. You toughen up over time, and once you get used to it, that's when you can truly enjoy the PvP servers.
Then, once you log off, and someone insults you in real life, you don't take it personally. You know that only noobs whine and insult other people.
No one ever died from flame wars in MMO's. The worst that could happen is you get sad for a few minutes, then you learn your lesson. You come out with tougher skin than you had before, in the game and in real life. I don't think we need to change a damn thing about this.
And if, by some change, you get so upset by the comments of people online...once again, the "Exit" button is right there.

...that PS3 UT3 players are not limited to the SIXAXIS controller. So there will still be keyboard-over-controller domination.

But I thought the point of a demo was to try BEFORE you buy?
