    Shouldn't OLED based monitors be out sometime within the very near future? I am not yet convinced that conventional TFT panels are up to the quality of a good Viewsonic or Sony CRT, but OLED sounds like it will be the cat's a$$ for much less. Cold CRT is a great idea, but perhaps a little bit too late.

    Hell, if the student(s) that wrote the code get a significant cut of the cashish then I can't see a damn thing wrong with it. I wish my school had done that, so that I didn't have this huge OSAP (student) loan to pay off.

    Other than Outlook, MS Office is a pretty damn good program(s). I ran a test on a couple employees at work with StarOffice (Mandrake 8) vs. MS Office and after 30 days of consistant use, they still preffered the MS Product for it's ease of use and integration. As much as I don't like MS (AIX, Netware and Linux servers), I have to admit that for the most-part, MS Office is a good product and very likely MS's best.

    I don't use this service myself, opting for a much better (in this area at least) DSL provider without the mile long EUA. One of my employees though is forced to use them if he wants broadband. After the @home switchover at the end of november, they stomped VPN, forcing us to upgrade to a much more expensive business service. They have yet to block SSH though, fortunatly. It's pretty sad, but Rogers policies makes Bell Canada's DSL look good.

    the 3286 (?) drivers for XP have Smoothvision enabled, Hydravision (dual monitor support) works great, though under Win2k it isn't that fantastic (98/Moron Edition is supposed to work fine as well) and the Quake3 'cheat / bug' has been fixed. All in all, they are decent drivers and alot better than the latest NVidia experimental drivers that a large number of people report problems / crashes with.

    When I decided to replace my Asus 7700 Deluxe with something a little newer, my budget seemed to limit me to a GeForce 3 Ti200. Further research showed me I could get a Radeon 8500 for just a little more. I ofcourse picked that up. It performs far better than a Ti200, nearly as good as a Ti500 (and better in many tests) for the price of a Ti200. Can't beat that eh?

    Tom has long been batting for AMD, and now that Intel has a better product he switched sides. The video of the smoking chip is hype. It didn't show many people at all anything they didn't already know. We all knew that AMD ran hot, and we all know that if your cpu fan starts growling that you need to replace it. All I want to know is whether this was a stunt to get even MORE traffic or to get Intel to send him more shirts and coffee cups.. Long live ars and [H]

    Napster has officially announced it's death with their plans to move away from mp3 to nap. Berry's overwhelming need to kiss the record companies collective asses has most definatly killed the company. It is as much his fault as the RIAA's fault. I vote for a ban on all future Napster news. Really, who gives a rats ass?

    Yes, looking back I see that I was a bit niave about the union staying honest. I was simply stating that there must be some sort of control over things. I love my job and therefor do not take advantage of my boss, nor the people that work there and that goes the other way as well. Unfotunatly there are too many companies / IT gurus without the moral standing required to be honest and responsible.

    Yes, your right. A union is not needed here. Just some accountability.

    In Ontario atleast, there is legislation that is being discussed that will not require overtime pay for IT professionals under certain circumstances, such as a project vital to the existance of the company. Should this pass through (and you can bet it will) then there will be soooo many more 'vital' projects.

    Ya, @home and Symcraptico are pretty monopolistic, but being a customer of Symcraptico HSE and a competing company's HSE service I have been able to compare. Bell may have a monopoly but atleast it is a good service. @home on the other hand. well ya. they suck arse

    The problem was not the government, it was the moron admin that didn't set up the connection properly with redundancy to make of for technical glitches that effect the entire world.

    Ya.. Other than the snow it is the same here too (southern Ontario). And I am sure it is the same in small towns in the states and elsewhere thoughout the world. And hell, CRTC or Bell.. Not a tough decision to me. Bell has, in these parts atleast, a stranglehold over the DSL market, and @home over the cable market. Sure, I can get DSL through another company. Only deal is that company gets the lines from Bell anyways, so it is all the same. What's the point.

    No worse than spending hard earned cash on deadbeats with no jobs and no intention of getting one. Perhaps your afraid that once everyone in Canada has access to quality internet services, they may become a little better informed and perhaps the states will look at this and say that's one hell of an idea. Japan is doing the same thing as well. Looks to me like someone is getting lift behind.

    And for crying out loud, your giving protestants out there, myself included, a bad name. Rampant bigotry should never have been let in as a form of free speech.

    People in IT have been taken advantage of (and taking advantage of) employers for too long now. A central body would definatly be a good thing. If your boss wants you to work that 80 hour week, for no overtime pay and you say no, he/she can simply go out and hire one of the MANY other people out there willing to take on that many hours. A union would certainly force more fairness. I just hope it doesn't turn into an auto-type union.

    This certainly can't happen. I can not fathom just how they would be able to tell the hundreds of millions of people apart by the way they type and move the mouse. True, one can make very broad and sweeping generalizations (redundant?) but there will be mistakes for sure. This would also require software to implement on the user end so it will certainly be an opt in thing unless someone can talk an unnamed monopoly into integrating it into their OS :p

    Being a member of the BlaBla network, I was quite disappointed in this. Sure, I get no money from blabla, but my host is really very generous (read: I pay for my IP addy and thats about it). The only thing I got from them was increased traffic. Now that it has been swallowed by UGO, my site and many of the other smaller sites passed up by UGO previously will be lost in the shuffle.
