  1. Basics on How to Keep Your Code From Destroying You · · Score: 2, Insightful

Ok, yeah, it's redundant. But is there anything wrong with going back to the basics? Look at sports figures ( and I chose sports for an analogy because most pro sports are very good at filtering out all but the best, and the very best get to the top by proving that they are better than the second best in head to heah competition, something that programmers almost never do. ) The best often are known for continually going back to basics.

Lombardi was known for his comment that if you block and tackle better than the other guy you win.

Magic Johnson was known for being on the court an hour earlier than the other pros and practicing shot after shot.

And Bobby Fisher's guide for beginners is still the best because he knew the basics like nobody else.

I predict that this may be yet another option on cell phones as the manufacturers compete for advanced features. You call up your doctor's web site, download the radiation pattern, and cure your brain cancer while you talk.

I swear, if you guys elect Giuliani, I am going to go out every weekend, find drunk Americans, and beat the crap out of them. If we Americans elect a republican ( except for Ron Paul ) we will be so burdened by stupid anti-terrorism laws that we won't be able to visit your country.

I suggest leaving the decision about whether or not to take off up to the airline with the following conditions: either they take off in their time slot, or they go back to the terminal and immediately unload the passengers. No other options.

Now that you mention it, that was the underlying problem; I just remember the head because a goulish friend of mine made a crack about 'keeping your head about you while diving'.

Quite a sad tale as I recall. Shows the dangers of nitrogen narcosis. Makes your judgement horrible.

Shaw made one serious mistake: he had a plan, and when something went wrong - the corpse's head came off - he tried to modify the plan at 800+ ft below, instead of going up to safety and making a new plan. ( Can't say I would have done better, though )
