We just had a national vote, and unfortunately, the wrong people won (IMHO). Yes thats right the infamous sen. Alston is still in parliment. This really worries me, polititions are going on at the moment about the issue with refugees affecting our national image. What about something like this? It just proves there are too many people making decisions about things they dont understand.

The problem is bigger than IT, but IT is the main area in trouble. At my school we have four classrooms of half-decent computers with even fibre-optic cable between rooms! what is the problem? The server is VERY low grade and cant take the stress. It's like having a bottle with radius 5 meters and a 1 mm bottle neck! This is the major example of our administrator stupidity. The worst part, however, is that he has no desire to learn, as he belives he knows all he need to know, and definately more than any students. No amount of funding or system re-design con help these people.

Im with you that this would be very cool and everything but I do think that where carmack is headed is different. This sort of VR involves a (in my view) a 3d model of yourself that you can use to interact with other ppl or programs etc. The point is that you can have whatever maodel you like, and appear however you want. In my opinion webcams take the hole point away from the net in that you are no longer anonymous and cannot create your own image.

I disagree. When people attempt to insult me by saying "you're a GEEK!" i simpily say "yes". If you are given a title accept it, and then change it to suit you own purposes. If people take offence at such claims THEN they give power to the insulter. agreeing leaves them without a leg to stand on a put you in the possition of power. I dont think the commercialisation(hope thats right) will come to what you said, soon the world will be bored with geeks and we will be back to being outcasts, and that's fine with me.

Im in agreement that whatever people call you they generally know what they mean and so do you. This has been very confused in my school at least and a while ago a few ppl somehow came to the conclusion that a nerd works hard and is involved with work, while not nessesarily being smart at all. A geek was someone that was smart and generally used this to do as little work as possible, and get out of trouble, as opposed to the nerd who would never do anything to get himself in trouble. About a month later tho9 this was pretty much forgotten about, and it was back to confusion but i dont think that it really matters. you know who you are (i hope) and thats what is important.

We have been talking lots over the net recently and I now know her a lot better than before and talk to her IRL. Although we are only friends at present, who knows? I think talking to people on the net that you know in real life lets you learn more about who they really are, and can lead to a benificial relationship, but I have my doubts about basing a relationship entirely over the net.
