Ah, so optimistic. No, unfortunately, any number of complaints will arise anyway, such as how we are now throwing money around like the imperialist dogs we are. Those are, of course, the same people who would scream that we aren't spending enough money if the administration supported a lesser amount. Many like to complain simply for the sake of being contrary.

Oh, BTW, to any non-Americans, those globetrotting assholes you meet are NOT in the majority of Americans. I think those rich pricks flying around the world, demanding everyone speak English are part of the reason the world thinks Americans are snobs. I've met more foreign snobs than American snobs, and I've never left the country for an extended period (more than 5 days).

OTOH, I can't argue in favor of the US Government, but that has nothing to do with the current administration -- they have all sucked since I was born.

Yes, the people mentioned ARE overpaid. The problem isn't totally with pilots in general being overpaid, but the disparity between entry-level pay and experienced pay. If the training costs so much, the entry-levels ought to be paid better to pay off loans/bills, then have more subtle pay raises.

I don't care what "dangers" people can make up in anecdotes, >99% of the time, jetline pilots these days will never need to do anything past standard automated procedures. That 1% of the time does not require enormous pay 100% of the time.
Trying to save himself from smashing into the ground is probably the #1 factor during a problem, and the pilot is usually not (IMHO) going to be worrying about the 300 people behind him, cuz if they go, he goes, so saving his own ass is in everyone's best interests, in such a case.

That's not collateral damage. That's the intended action. If you're so worried about people who can't get their mail, tell THEM to stop using SPEWS because your IP range is constantly blocked. It's not up to you to tell people not to use the service. Don't like it? Don't use it.

Inform the people who DO use it why you think they should not use mail filtering, and if they believe the problem is real, they should stop using it. I have never had a legitimate message blocked by the SPEWS list, but one person's experience is, of course, not precedent.

Plus, the first offense means you are only blocked for a few hours. If you were wrongly accused, there are procedures in place to deal with it. I just dislike the idea that because you have had bad experiences that you demand everyone else open themselves up for spam. It's a service for people to opt into, not a rule of the 'net. I don't have any statistics on it, but I'd bet the very large majority of servers on the Internet do not use that service.

    > you finally move, and what is to stop SPEWS from blocking your new class C with the same illogical thinking that landed you at this new ISP?

Well, if that happens as soon as you move, chances are pretty good that it's your server to blame.

That's a long stretch. Shitloads of people have MP3s, with no DRM and liked it just fine. I have heard of very few people who benefit from DRM-protected files, other than music producers & distributers.

I agree that OGG support isn't a necessity for mainstream users. Sure, quality might be better, but most people aren't audiophiles needing perfect music. If they did, radio would be gone. Or at least it would sound better. Products (Music players, in this case) are geared toward how most people will use them, and the VAST majority of people, even those who use MP3s, have never heard of OGG/Vorbis.
