I just never had to study in my high school to pass anything, it just wasn't important. Now I am suspened from school for a semester, and looking at how I can possibly raise my GPA so that maybe just maybe I won't have to depend on my ACM Programming Contest Awards to get a job out of College.

Also, being an ISP just constitutes providing a service, wiether you pay for it or not, i.e. juno/netzero of old. If i provide service via an Access point to the rest of my apartment complex then technically i could be considered a lame ISP, but i still provide the service, i.e. Internet Service Provider.

  11. my school on Dorm Storm? · · Score: 1, Informative

My school uses a packet shaper and firewall combination. The firewall stops all incoming traffic that didn't originate from inside the firewall. Ie, i can connect to outside, but outside cannot connect in. So therefore, since i work for an ISP outside of campus, i can't get into my freebsd box to get any personal work done, while not in my dorm room(yes they block all non-originating traffic in from everything but the dorms). So therefore, Code Red would of had no effect to dorm room students, unless someone got infected on purpose. I will propose putting a limit on people, like a Gig a day or something so people won't run pr0n sites(the reason the firewall was put up).

Having being a undernet frequent visitor over the past few years, and knowing most of the wrong people, makes me doubt Romania.

What can they do? A firewall would help, some, but not solve the problem (FreeBSD ipfw cost $30 486 w/8-16mb ram and 500 mb harddrive,).

But a firewall will not fix the problem, no not much will, except make everyone happy of which will never happen. But you cannot let them, the kiddies, walkover Undernet so it is forced to close, you must stand up so they cannot do it to another server and another.

If it is a DDoS, then obviously the kiddie got in the machines that he is using by a vunerability, and is controling them, but I doubt he fixed the bug, kill the machine? (shutdown now) Contact the dumbass admin that didnt patch his server, tell him you were forced, by 50000-60000 undernet users. But it does not really matter in the end though, he will always find more insecure boxes, and he can continue the attack, any "Romanians want to go raid his house and make his ass stop please? I really wouldnt mind, and I doubt most people would care other than him and his parents.

Oh well just my few tidbits of information.

  24. I know, I know on Surfing The Net With Brain Waves? · · Score: 1

This is a semi-ligit technology, i read about it in the latest Wired Magazine (January 2001 i believe). Let me tell what i recall from it. Basically some scientists say that if your brain works at a certain frequency (something along these lines) you can concentrate better. The same scientists wantted something that can help ADD or Attention Deficeit Disorder. They needed a way to tell children to have their brains work at that certain frequency so they can concentrate better. These scientists modified a playstation (or a N64 not sure which). Which responds to the controls the closer they get to the certain freqency therefore making the game harder when they are not close or easy if they are on the right track (hence feedback which i would say should be fairly effective). This helmet I assume somehow helps the user play the games better when they have their brain at the right frequency so the children improve there attention span and get better grades in school, life, etc... That is the basics or as much as i can remember.
