I must admit that I have not been keeping up with the RIAA cases as of late, however, I was curious if anyone has ever considered or attempted some type of a class-action lawsuit against RIAA (and other related parties) for price-fixing and industry manipulation?
I was also curious if anyone has done any prototyping for a demand-based dynamic pricing system (clearly with some caps) for digital music or books? Perhaps that could clean up both of the industries by putting bad musicians and poor writers out of business.
I think that the main issue here is different statistical probability. Lawnmowers are faulty one time out of many, and software is faulty all the time. Biggy
Although your interpretation of my message was pretty funny it did nothing for your karma. Plus it probably turned off most of your gay friends. Sucks for you (oops, no pun intended)
Is there a way on Slashdot to find out who has moderated you up or down? If not,I think that it would be a cool feature to expand upon our interrealtionship on slashdot.
I realize that this might be a bit off topic, but I am really curious as to how I could increase my "Slashdot" karma. Lately I have noticed that it seems to significantly affect relationships with my "uncool but pretty nerdy" friends, so obviously being a self-conscious american I started to care. Ever since i realized that nobody gives a shit about my point of view on slashdot and therefore doesn't moderate me up the virtual scale of existance I have become seriously depressed. As a side effect i have begun to use Windows on a consistent basis (to my own disadvantage and to spite all of the/. fans/members) and addtionally i have started to visit many disapproved information websites. I am not sure how other people deal with this kind of suicidal (turn on profiling) behavior, but I simply don't care anymore. Since nobody was going to give me any karma points my artificially (american) built up self-esteem has disapeared, therefore I will probably have to end my existance as Biggy and come up with a more hacker-like, karma friendly handle for slashdot.
Goodbye, Biggy
PS. And for all the hot nerdy girls out there, Biggy means 6'5" 195 lb jacked mofo with the abs of steel, who is a nerd/jock at a "decent" college.
i bet that a buch of linux wiseasses didn't know that most of the money to be made is not in linux, but in proteomics for next few years(decades). (Besides Microsoft after it regroups and puts Linux where it belongs) good luck anyhow. Biggy (I own a really big fire extinguisher)
Since all of the greatest linux corps are making their own "exclusive/specialized/customized/best ever" distros, why would I want to put any work into my own linux system. How soon will it be until we'll have an antitrust trial within the Linux industry?
Honestly though, people have always complained about buggy Microshit software. But what about the buggy Red Hat distro software. Let's "really" be smart and open-minded.
Talking about old days. I had an Atari 65XE. It ran software off of tapes. Games took 30 minutes to load. You could get software by recording FM radio trasmissions. I bet that games like Road Race and Spy vs. Spy, would still be more fun than Daikatana. And imagine how psyched I was when I finally added a floppy drive.
That's a pretty poor parallel, however, you're still correct that they should not get off for free. The resolution should focus on increasing competitiveness in the OS market (complying with standards in the browser industry, possibly opening up some of the source code etc.), but it should definetely stay away from any kind of crippling punishment. Punishing for the sake of punishing in this case would be ignorantly stupid.
I am not sure about most of the people on/. , but I care about my financial security. Due to the fact that Microsoft's connection with the entire economy is very vague and precarious, I would be willing to cut MS some slack in the final stage of the proceedings in order to prevent my portfolio from losing ~50% of its value. Anyway, what MS did wrong happened long, long time ago. Now everyone needs to get over it, and let them compete against the likes of Linux. And we all know that they will need alot of help.

Is it because term "cracker" could be easily misunderstood in the South (Georgia etc.)?

Flames welcomed, but honestly...

I guess in a few weeks all of us will be able to run our own experiments on the ISS. "if you know what i mean of course"
insert "buhaha...buhahah"

I guess I will have to concur. As sad as it is Atari 65XE still kicks ass.
Biggy
I guess if you're brilliant and accomplish something special, you better kill yourself or you will never be appreciated/understood.
how sad.
