Instead of them being inline as they are in Kmail, OE and Outlook, Evolution attaches them as a seperate file. This defeats the entire purpose of digitally signing an email. It's impossible to prove the email was modified or who it was signed by as the attachment could go to anything.
Sorry but until Evolution gets that straight (inline means INLINE) it will remain a bit player on Linux.
What I'd like to see is a unique transaction number generated by the primary card company (Visa/MasterCard/Discovery/AmEx) that is 128 digits that includes the CC type, amount of transaction along with an ID for payment. This information is all I would need to hold in my system in order to be paid by the card company and because the ID includes the amount of the transaction, I can't overbill any card.
The advantages are that the card company only has the amount I've billed along with a transaction ID that identifies the billing merchant. This should actually ease chargebacks and damn well stop card fraud because a merchant who continually gets hit with chargebacks of a fraudulent nature can then be cut off from that card network. It also allows the company greater control on the merchant agreements and the rate a merchant actually pays for the privleage of accepting a card.
In the case of the damn iphone, if you unlocked the thing using a software hack as most people did, then you did not void your warranty unlike a hardware hack which does. Now in the event anyone was foolish enough to risk opening a no user servicable parts piece of equipment, then yes the warranty is null & void under the law and it's this issue that will be decided by the courts.
Simply put, Apple can not disclaim warranty responsibility for software hacks and all that can be enforced is the returning of the phone to a working state with the new updates. They are not required to fix the hack and reinstall any additional apps onto the system that was not originally there (Recovery CD's anyone?). So what will happen is that Apple will have to meet the letter of the law and nothing more after it's determined that the unlocking was done via software and not hardware.
That's right, this is a serious failure of the marketing department to upsell people on the more expensive version along with the support contracts. Damn idiots. List this as a feature that's desirable and as an SMB I might even be interested in going for the more expensive version to gain access to the feature that allows me to more easily enforce disk encryption policies but no they didn't see this and thus it becomes a marketing debacle and people now wonder if they're not willing to document it and use it as a marketing point (Upsell you damn salespeople), then it becomes a backdoor into the computer. Who are these unnamed customers who demanded such a feature? NSA? CIA? Mossad? M6? God damn Microsoft? RIAA? It all boils down to perception and they screwed the porch royally on this one when a little creative marketing could have upsold more people on the more expensive product.
Now folks will question the integrity of the product and they've now got a potential liability issue on their hands because as sure as the sun rises in the west, some lawyer will figure out how to use this to shift the blame for the loss of employee/customer data that should have been encrypted that wasn't.
Probably for the same reason as me: Unbalanced color perception. I've been diagnosed with what is seen as a difference in color perception in each eye, which simply means one eye sees more of the blue spectrum while the other sees more of the red spectrum with overlap only in the middle ranges. In other words one eye sees brighter blues while the other eye sees deeper reds.
Simply put, a *Nix system should have the system clock set to GMT and synchronized to a time server. MS rolled the update out as they insist that local time is what the system time should be set to. IDIOTS Now anyone who's upset that Debian/Apple/*bsd has not rolled out a patch/update is creating a tempest in a teapot unless they are foolish enough to use localtime for the system clock as MS insists on. In that case, they deserve all the ridicule and grief they're getting for being idiots instead of doing things the correct way.
Why is it stupid to do things the MS Way? Pretty simple really. Time Zones do change and Laptops change between several of them quite frequently. Now by setting the system clock to GMT, all time stamps are based upon the same TZ and no daylight savings time (remember this is called Internet Time) meaning you avoid all those issues while ensuring a legal timestamp on everything that needs it.
It's this reason that almost every *nix installer asks if your system clock is configured to GMT. If so, then you avoid these damn foolish issues unlike the poor MS admins who had to roll out the TZ patch in order to correctly sync their system clocks to local time instead of Internet Time as is the *nix standard. It's all part of the Extend/Embrace/Extinguish habits of MS and they love to create more work for the lawyers all the time; otherwise they would have followed the RFC on setting computer System Clocks to GMT or as the Military says ZULU TIME.
then I'll be able to simply heat my entire house without turning the damn heaters on while running the Folding GPU client.
Seriously though, we're already seeing problems with PSU's that can't deliver enough on the 12volt rail (2900XT needs 24 Amps by itself) and now they want to push that up to 26-28 amps? So where is the power going to come from? The wicked fairy's curse?
The biggest power consumer in my Laptop (Compaq with Turion ML37/1GB 80GB 5400) is the backlight, which is listed as 40 watts of the total 60 watts output by the power brick. Now seeing at how you need a few watts reserve output in order to charge the battery, I'd say total system consumption is a meager 55 watts with the bulk of it going to the damn backlight.
Now if I could get the screen that the OLPC uses (readable in direct sunlight) I'd be quite happy as most of what I do involves simply reading/writing efforts (spreadsheets, email, word) and this would improve the battery life of my laptop to at least 5 hours instead of the 2.1 I get now.
Here's my Take on why CC/Flikr/Virgin will get biten on the ass. Unless Flikr has a properly exucuted Model Release on File at the companies headquarters, they have absolutely no legal right to allow commercial exploitation of any persons likeness/photograph. CC is legaly in hot water by not having a disclaimer that the CC license is not applicable to photographs involving people. The license was created for written works only and should state that but as they have not, they're now going to get hit for malpractice. In the case of Virgin. Some one screwed up royally and they're going to get hit the hardest for not having asked two simple questions. Is the model of Legal Age? Do we have a valid Model Release? and because of not having checked either issue, they're going to pay dearly for this lack of vigilence.
The reason no one wants to adopt IPv6 is the fact it's the unstable testing branch. It's when IPv7 is finally released that everyone will start adopting as it will include 128 bit address spaces, privacy, big brother extensions, auto-nuke capabilities, warp drive and subspace tunneling. The next improvement will be in IPv9, when it goes to 256 bit address spaces and 11 goes to 512bit and the last IPv protocol will be 13 because that's called Borg where "Resistance is futile. You will be assimulated"..
Remember folks, Linux himself stated that the kernel is HIS and as such, he excersises a tyrany over it. There is some debate about features and such but his decisions are final or in other words the buck stops there.
Provide the software as a live CD that's encrypted with a single use code. Require the CD be in the drive as many apps now do while keeping the data files either local or network stored. Further more, ensure that legitimate customers can easily use it from a CD Jukebox (network based) as this provides the Simplest solution to enforcing per/seat liscensing. Include a simple counter in the application that +/- during use by employees.
The advantages is an easy to maintain license agreement and if people start having problems, the network admin can investigate who's using the program and leaving it running unneccessarily. If it's an unauthorized employee, they can then deal with the issue internally while not having the threat of activation or other issues. It also ensures that they will purchase upgraded license without having to scream about use.
As part of this seat base license, sell something like a 25 seat license with that as the soft license but don't be afraid of setting a hard license check of 30. This allows for the system issues (lockups/crash/dead) while ensuring that if the company finds the product to be useful, they will be willing to purchase an upgraded license at a reasonable cost.
The main thing is to ensure that you have a useful product and that any business has an easy time managing said useful product without issues.
In regards to "Love your enemy" and "turn the other cheek" being core teachings of Judeo-Christianity you are correct but the Navy follows older gods, Aries/Mars - God of War, Vulcan - God of the Forge, Loki - God of Chaos and Thor - God of thunder. Note that under Norse/Viking Rules/Laws of war, the use of distance weapons were forbiden as being unworthy/cowardly, thus no one asks Odin for his blessing as it would result in his curse instead.
So as you see, when asking for gods blessing upon the Military, you are not asking for Christ's Blessing. Instead you're asking for Yahwee's/Jehova's/Zeus/Aries/Thor/Loki instead.
Several things can't be notarized. First is a photograph. Second is a program.
Simply put, a Notary Public in the United States verifies Identity, not ownership of IP and as such can not usually and damn well better think twice about it; notarize anything that is not a written document with a signature on it. Things like Contracts, Afidavits, Acknowledgements and so on that indicate some type of written response with a signature is required.
IN all fairness, the 7200.10 designation is the same as saying it's an Ford F150. In this regards the 7200 indicates it's a 7200 RPM drive and not a 5400 RPM model. the.10 is the revision number and not a model number. The model number is actually "ST3320620AS" not the 7200.10. So anyone who's buying a seagate drive damn well better pay attention to the model number and explanation. Some are designed for servers and cost more while others are designed for multimedia apps (video editing) and then you have the general consumer models. Cheap and varying performance.
I've suggested to my ISP (roadrunner) that they block all incoming priveleged ports except for authenticated such as ssh/vpn/tls at the modem even if it breaks things like skype/steam/xbox because there is absolutely no reason for a home user to have any priveleged ports open to outside traffic (TOS - no servers clause).
Now if we could get all ISP's to do this for home accounts, it would shutdown many of the damn botnets until they manage to reconfigure for non-priveleged ports.
A question I had to ask myself involved the diff between a home & business account. Turns out that it's a meager $10 per month for the privelege of running servers and faster access to tech support (I get direct access to the level 2 techs). Another advantage is it's deductable as a legitimate business expense (Yes the IRS Says it's deductable) even though I didn't purchase any increase in bandwidth I have a contract that states my guaranteed minimums though it's no SLA along with no-cap except bandwidth provision (effectively unlimited).
I understand their dilemma but perhaps they should stop trying to shove 50 channels of stuff we do not want to watch and start providing REAL customer service, like custom channels at a DECENT price. Comcast here is over ~$60/month just for "digital cable" (where 1-99 are analogue for compatibility reasons, because it is easier on their side, even though they could easily make the box get digital channels of those) with HBO Actually they are required by FCC regs to provide the lower channels in analog format for those who don't wish to rent a box. Sorry but that's a government regulation they can't avoid without serious fines at this time
I do agree with you though that I'd much rather they finally get to the damn ala-carte stage we've been hearing about for the last two years. Give me the option of the analog service for a cheap price and allow me to add the channels I'm actually willing to spend money for while avoiding the 40 shopping channels we've now got. Hell I don't need all of the espn channels since I rarely if ever watch them, prefering discovery science, hgtv and this old house along with the weather channel along with a few others.
and considering the fact that Islam has never signed the Geneva Conventions (not a government) it's no damn wonder they feel that RC Aid Workers and Hospitals are prime targets. They represent the Hated Crusaders that invaded their land to free them from the hated and represive Islamic religion that has served them well for longer then the christian faith has.
So as any good muslim can safely attest, there's the hated enemy, attack and never let up. Send them all to Allah so he can judge who is right!! Drive them from our home and kick their teeth down their throats so they can't come back again.
He was convicted not for the spam (although annoying as hell) but for selling & prescribing controlled meds without a license (he's not a doctor), impersonating a doctor and for selling such meds without being a licensed pharmacists. Now if anyone who purchased from him dies, they can and will go back and charge him with Murder as that's exactly what it would be.
Now if the AMA would get off their asses and start cracking down on these spammers practicing medicine without either a license or that all so powerfull MD/OD that allows them to prescribe, we'd start putting many of them spammers either into prison or bankruptcy for malpractice. The final effort should be to clean up their damn ranks and start defrocking the idiots who've found it's easier to make a buck with limited risk for malpractice by writing prescriptions for people they've never seen. Hell hold them legally liable for any injury their malpractice causes.
On a closing note, so long as the pharmacy is properly licensed in the state it's based in (be it online or brick&mortar) then I have no issues with a legitimate sale so long as there is a fully legal perscription written by a real doctor. It can certainly be cheaper for long-term meds then the local RiteAid/Walgreens/Walmart while allowing to reallocate inventory space to medications that are used short term such as Antibiotics/antifungals and such.
I'm sorry but that does not compute Dave. WTF??? That does not compute Dave. You god damn computer, that's an emoticon.
I feel the same way. If it's an emoticon, it's a waste of effort as I don't understand them, refuse to use them and totally disallow them and certainly don't consider them to be a valid form of punctuation or english communication. You've got an "F" Student and now have to retake the class with me, the only instructor that teaches it here. And yes, I've nailed several of them for a summer and let me tell you, the others passed the word very quickly you don't use IM Speak in my class if you want to pass.
in 20 years, which is why I gave up TV. Much rather pick up a book and read as it's portable and in an SFF that fits comfortably in the hand plus it uses no power.
While I do use the PW Manager in Firefox, I have never allowed it to retain any critical pw's with those defined as any site where I enter financial or shipping information. For those sites, I use a dedicated PW Manager that allows me to generate more secure passwords using all available characters including special characters.
In the rare case that a website does not accept/allow special characters to be used for passwords, I tend to re-evaluate their value to me. I also notify both the webmaster and customer service that they've reduced the value of their business to me by not accepting secure passwords and that I will no longer deal with them except by a cash-n-carry basis. A few of them have responded positively and after some effort have increased their password security by allowing special characters and thus they've gained an increased level of business from me along with the positive word of mouth advertising to my friends and associates.
One thing I can say is that TimeWarner/Roadrunner has things right. When you do a Self install, all you really need is Mac address of the modem. Yep that's it. If it doesn't work you call self-install support and provide the modems MAC and should be up and running.
The only thing I dislike is that the homepage/support pages are all flash based and I wished to hell they'd get off their asses and at least configure the support pages to plain HTML for the FAQ and server settings.
