Ah yes, the good old "everyone who doesn't like what I like must be stupid" line... Mustn't you sub elitists feel lucky that you can even give it a pseudo-objective backing?
The truth is, film is mainly a visual medium, and subtitles seriously reduce the attention you can give to the visuals, unless you are one of the few people blessed with very sharp peripheral vision. And subtitles aren't how the creator of the original intended you to watch the movie - he intended it to be seen in a language to audience understands, unmarred by text at the bottom.
BSD started out in late 1977 as a kit of additional software and patches to AT&T's UNIX version 6. The source was aviable and open to anyone who had the proper
AT&T License.
Which cost an arm and a leg, and pretty much removed all "opnenness".
And making that argument might fly with blind "the world is Linux" zealots, but the reality is Linux is based on Minix, and BSD's roots go back to 1977.
Yeah, and Minix wasn't based on Unix at all, sure. You blind BSD zealots might not like it, but the reality is, Linux was real open software while BSD was still a set of patches to a proprietary OS.
Well, AFAIK the open BSD variants were started 2 years after Linux; it could be argued that they wouldn't have taken off without Linux as an example that it can be done.
Um, last time I checked, the US economy was slowing down, and people were worried how "soft" that would happen, while Europe was accelerating...
And I agree with the other response: paying a bit more for blank media is definitely preferable (and far less regulation) to the DMCA shit you have in the USA.
Won't give you the nice, printed manual that comes with the SuSE distribution, which is an invaluable source of help for those not 100% familar with every aspect of Linux and all its major applications.
As long as this would work properly (I haven't yet read the article, sorry, bad habit) with the old drives I have in
my machine and it would simply be a software hack
Excuse me: BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Do you also believe in these emails that tell you how to make $50000 with only a $5 investment?
You got it backwards, kiddo. Spam is abuse of the internet, with the potential to render one of its most important services, email, unusable. Spammers are parasites who use up resources and pay nothing for it, and they frequently employ illegal means. You are either an idiot or a troll.
Sorry, but I'm right. I live in Japan, I'm talking to Japanese, I watch TV. I mentioned the open-mindedness to exceptions; Ghibli anime are the most widely accepted. The rest is for kids and otaku. Very few "normal" Japanese adults watch anime regularly.
Why don't you first learn how not to misinterpret what other people say, buddy? Did I say "over for good?" No. I said "has reached its limits". Meaning that it's down to normal levels (it is a perfectly normal things: some industries become less important and can't anymore support as many companies as before, while new ones rise) instead of the insane feeding frenzy we've seen.
may in fact be responsible for the
prevelant American view of anime as a "kiddy genre" as opposed to a style of filmmaking.
I have news for you: Anime is considered a "kiddy genre" even in Japan! It's mostly made for kids and watched by kids, and parents expect their kids to "grow out of it" at about 16. They are just a bit more open-minded to exceptions to this rule, and there are a lot more hardcore fans (but those are still a small minority).
Actually, the buyout and merger trend has come nearly to a halt after the general stock price decline in the last 6 months and after several big mergers resulted in failure (especially the DaimlerChrysler one). "Bigger is Better" has reached its limits.
There's applications where you simply don't need transactions (anything without interdependencies between different acions). They may not be sophisticated, but they're quite numerous. Thus, a DBMS without transactions is much more useful than a knife without a handle. If it were different, MySQL would not be so widespread.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but... Windows doesn't pregenerate thumbnails, so it *also* has to load the full image and then scale it down for the thumbnail. This should incur pretty much the same lage than loading an image viewing program. Unless, of course, the image viewing program is very heavyweight, but it's your choice which one you use.
You are not even close, it hasn't got anything with experts. Basically, it means a prediction of the final result, based on a partial one and the assumption that the votes yet to be counted will be divided similar to the ones already counted. "hoch" (high) doesn't mean people with much knowledge, it refers to "calculating (rechnen) up" from a partial result to a complete one.
To be fair, I think the usage of "boxen" for computers in English has nothing to do with the fact that the word is the correct plural in German (as this post so obscurely points out).
On the other hand, the fact that someone is close-minded enough to get hung up about a playful nonstandard plural is also quite amazing.
Actually the goddesses are Tokimi, Tsunami and Washu (though she doesn't remember it). There are several hints in the anime if you look closely, and it has been spelled out in interviews.
Amen to that. If it weren't for the "all or nothing" approach at various levels, you'd have a much saner system where, if one party doesn't get an overwhelming majority, two of them have to work out a compromise and share the power.
Must be you. I didn't notice any gratuitou tit shots. Presumably because I wasn't specifically looking for them...

Um, the soundtrack was everything but traditional, Japanese or otherwise.

Well, compared to what? It doesn't even have a can-opener!
Do yourself a favor and get yourselves a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife with builtin digital altimeter and thermometer, so you can play with a real knife!

"boiling gas" is a contradiction in terms...
Well, it proves this: a country with "democractic" in its name most likely isn't. A field of study with "science" in its name almost certainly isn't.
And of course nobody ever checks "No Score +1 Bonus" in a really good posting because it results in more headroom for up-modding :)

Had the same thing happening to me at my bank, only I hadn't thought of such a great remark beforehand...
Legally impossible, I'm afraid, since he's not a US citizen. We'd have to settle for Alan, Eric or Richard... um, better not Richard.
