    Having just implemented a linux box here at work, my boss asked me about this. I tested it, and just using the first 8 chars did *not* work. This is on the latest version of Slackware (7?)...

    Actually, our benefit of the doubt *can* sway them. Why do you think they're doing this? To make money. The aibo fan (?) community has asked for them to do this. They've shown an interest, and indicated that they would buy more aibos if they could do more with it. These things cost enough to be a niche item. If you are selling a niche item, you better listen to the customers, it's too easy to make them go away. So by giving a money driven corporation the benefit of the doubt, and buying their product, you're showing them that they did the "right thing". You think it's right for idealist reasons. They think it's right for monetary reasons. End result works for everyone.

    Yeah, videotaping the officer might be a good idea. They usually frown on that, though. It's surprising how quickly they get upset when they are being recorded. Sometimes they get so flustered they accidentally drop the video camera when they check it for hidden weapons.

    I make sure that my daughter (6) knows that she can tell me about anything. I tell her it's especially important to tell me if someone tells her *not* to, that she'll get in trouble. She knows that anyone saying that is up to no good, and that I need to know about it. She's pretty good at knowing people are lying to her (which can make things difficult for me).

    Two words, drunken parties :) An alternate plan is to have a confederate, a girl who you're good friends w/, and have her start casually talking about you. If she's cool enough to claim to have slept with you, she can go on & on about it. If you're well endowed, prove it to her & she'll be more likely to help. Hell, she may even start looking at you different. Just like the porn star says on the commercial, size does matter. It doesn't help you keep the chickies, but it does help you get them in the first place. Never boast about it, and never overestimate. That's muy mal.

    And I've probably gone on waaaay too long about this on /. Oh, and fat chicks give the best head, if that helps w/ the attractiveness issue. Plus the light will be out :)

    That's cheating :) A day after this post, I was at the local coffee house (NOT $tarbuck$, I said coffee). They had a bunch of books on the table for sale, and I picked up a HOWTO on solving the cube. Now if I can just find one :)

    Actually, just about every person I know who isn't tech-y plays online card games, word games, etc. For a while I was even involved in a word game feud w/ my 3 sisters. 2v2, and we always kicked their butt :)

    For real. Since my grandmother retired, all she does is visit Florida & stay online. She knows enough now that she doesn't call me for help anymore. If I want to say hi, I'm better off emailing her than calling. And don't get her started on AOL :) She's part of a huge travelling retiree community. They run into each other occasionally, but keep in touch over the internet. And they *love* Yahoo Games...

    I'd be more interested in the #s if they took costs out of them. Movie A makes 20 mil., and cost 600k. Movie B makes 40 mil., but cost 35 mil. to make. I'm more impressed w/ Movie A.

    People hate people. It doesn't matter who you are, what ethnic group you're in, or where you are. Your people have been screwed by someone else. And you've screwed another group. The whole Jew thing is just so tired it's just ridiculous.

    How long has the community made fun of Mac users? We've laughed at their outdated GUI, lack of preemptive multitasking, their one button mice, just about everything. Now they have a superior (in some ways, in some opinions) OS. Yes, much of the core was borrowed/stolen (isn't that what the BSD license is all about?). They haven't done anything that anyone else couldn't do. The difference is that they did it, in their typical Apple user friendly way.

    I can't afford a Mac. Hell, I can barely afford a PC. I have a lot of respect for the work they've done, though. Give respect where it's due, and let them laugh while they can.

    Serious question, is that a troll? I started reading because I love AoN, but then you started spouting off on some tangent. If it's a troll, it's the best one I've ever seen (not to encourage it, but I've become fascinated by trolls in the past week or so, and most get modded down real quick).     Not me. My kid (7yo) *has* an etch-a-sketch. She would much rather draw on my Palm M105 than doodle with that. She's from the battery generation. If it doesn't have batteries, she doesn't care about it. Her birthday is Thurs. and I know what I'm getting her now...
