There was a show on comets recently on the Discovery channel. This lady was studying a comet that hit Russia. She claimed the plants around the area where it hit where abnormal. The cells had different properties from cells normally found on earth. I wonder if this story could be related in some way.
I just did research for a "high-end" receiver and bought a Yamaha RXV-2095 for $855 off ebay new w/ warranty. Every high-end store here in Texas (Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio) wanted about $1400 just to give you an idea of what you can do online. As for Yamaha the HTR line like you'll find in Circut City etc. is cheap and not nearly as well made as the RXV line. Most receivers from these stores are crap. If your looking for High-end equipment and are serious about sound I suggest the following website:
The article was guessing that 9 stood for 9 layers. I would think since the other feature of this chip is Silicon-on-Insulator its safe to say S is for Silicon!
There not just saying what you put there is public. They are making money off other peoples property. If the law says that the person taking the photos owns the copyright then they should be paying them. Not that I agree or disagree with it but this is straight from the article:
Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998, copyright of an image is automatically owned by the creator at the time it's created.
Well the major part of the issue is in software configuration drivers not hardware. Sorry that so many of you missed the issue. This article tries to make it sound like they are talking about hardware but the computer failures in Consumer Reports are mostly related to drivers or a "screw lose behind the keyboard". You know how many idiots I hear talking about problems they blame on the machine when they can barely power on the machine?
Write and customize your programs. Sort data using tools that have been around for 30 years. I could go on and on but its obvious by your use of the word troll your a moron.
I think you missed the point. You expect the refrigirator to keep your food cold... How many things do you expect a computer to do? Maybe if you want something simple you should buy a mac. However if you want something to do everything and anything under the sun there are always going to be conflicts and problems.
In analysing repair histories of 13 kinds of products gathered by Consumer Reports, PC World found that roughly 22 percent of computers break down every year -- compared to 9 percent of VCRs, 7 percent of big-screen TVs, 7 percent of clothes dryers and 8 percent of refrigerators.
A computer is something that accomplishes 100's of task so natrually it would need more maintanance than products that only accomplish one. The author seems to overlook this entirely. Not sure if there is any point to reading the article any further after a statement like that.
Sorry about the grammer I was being interupted by work =). I am reposting my question so it makes sense. If my question gets used please quote the following:
I've read through both the FreeBSD and OpenBSD websites looking for facts to support which one is better. The only thing I've found is OpenBSD's claims for better security. From talking to people who use both I've been told FreeBSD is faster on average. I've heard that FreeBSD is faster for user applications and OpenBSD has faster networking code. Is this true, did I miss any comparisons, and will the 2.8 release change any of this?
I've read both the FreeBSD and OpenBSD looking for facts to support what is the best choice and only found OpenBSD claims for good security. From talking to people who use the BSD's more than I do I've heard FreeBSD is faster than OpenBSD on average. I've heard that FreeBSD is faster for running user applications and OpenBSD has faster networking code. Is this true and does the 2.8 release change any this?
Thank you for recapping what I was trying to say. Your points are valid and express my beliefs. I feel that if Jon Katz would take time to discuss his ideas with normal people then maybe he could start to make more sense. It seems like he writes these articles just to start trouble and doesn't take the time to research or discuss his views.
I started using Linux back in 94' because I wanted to learn Unix. Since then many new distros have come about and they just keep getting bigger. I decided to try OpenBSD as my firewall so I could see what all the raving was about. I must say the small amount of software and the easy configuration was very welcomed. I quickly figured out NAT, IPF, installed snort, and secured the machine. I think Linux is awesome if your learning because it introduces into all the preinstalled apps. However, once you know which services/programs you want to run and are concerned with having to much crap installed BSD makes a great alternative. I'm debating trying out FreeBSD as a workstation instead of Linux now.
Yes its true most parents can't teach their kids TCP/IP or how to cheat on their NES but that's not what I mean. Parents can give their kids life on advise because life isn't that much different. You still have to work, treat others with respect, do the crap you need to do. Kids can learn the rest themselves thats what their brain is for!
Another Jon Kat's conspiracy theory with no merit. I grew up playing video games and knew the cheat code immediatly. When I was a teenager I did believe I knew more then my parents, true. My parents when younger didn't have video games and they had the same belief in the 60's. I'm sure their parents went through the same thing. It's called being a teenager. My parents taught me many things I failed to listen to growing up. Now however I'm 26 years old and realize they were right and I was wrong on a whole lot of things. This whole process just happens a lot more and a lot faster these days because of better communication and more crap to think about.
Nothing has changed much except that most parents aren't raising their kids and teaching them the lessons they need for when they decide to grow up. These are just my own rants and any opions different from mine are wrong. Just kidding =P
First of all no major company would want users using Napster so I believe NAT (or PAT) will be around for a while. This means that the majority of NAT users wanting to enable incoming connections are DSL and Cable users.
Obviously you could forward all incoming traffic for 6699 to one machine and use that for Napster. IMHO you shouldn't use NAT at home if you can't figure this out.
I was wondering what would happen if you were to forward all inbound connections destined for port 6699 to the broadcast address of your subnet? Would the listening peer start receiving the transfer, and would this overload the network?
With all the replies hopefully you will get to hear mine. I have been a Unix admin for 6 years and I have 4-5 years exp. being an Exchange Admin. The thing here is you don't have to switch over. You can setup an Exchange server and connect it to the rest of your organization very easily. Then all your high ups who want exchange can have it and the people who don't can keep doing what they are doing. I would highly suggest you take this route and keep them all happy.
Of course if your boss is a moron worried about his bottom line he will be upset having to pay and exchange admin and a Solaris Admin. Unfortunatley most IT people care about making things easier on themselves and the cheap route. Your job is to give users what they need to keep them happy little worker bees and not mad raging bees.
The tech stocks have dropped but who didn't expect this to happen? Company's can not maintain P/E's of 300 nor can they maintain negative Earn/Share. I got out a few months ago and now things are starting to look really good. Most of the companys now have realistic P/E's of 20-60 which is what oil companys have maintained for the past 50 years (approx.). We know the tech industry is going to continue to boom around the world for decades to come. I will feel a lot safer buying back in at realistic prices personally.
I'm pretty sure snort can detect backdoors. I haven't had to do much security in the past year but backdoor/trojan detection software exist. Of course for trojans nothing really beats tripwire. As for backdoors, I've played around with some backdoor detection kits downloaded from Packet Storm.
No offense towards Jamie BUT if I hired someone to post stories to slashdot I'd expect them to be up on something like electronic voting. Next time get all the facts, and make a more objective, stronger opinion before posting. Electronic votings pros and cons have been discused for the past 15-20 years and I'd expect you to have a much more objective opinion posting for Slashdot and all.
Its upsetting to me to see the editors of this site not having their shit together. The editing quality seems to be diminishing at an equal rate to the reader quality. Just because you have a bunch of losers reading your site doesn't mean you can start slacking off on you devoted readers looking for the latest news. Stop posting repeat stories and old news and get back on track guys.
If it can be proven that a person was involved in taking pictures of children or knowingly distributing child porn then it should be illegal. If there is any question whatsoever that the girl is over 18 and they can't prove the person thought it was then I don't think they should be punished. Also even if they thought the girl was under 18, if it's proven she wasn't then I think they should have to let them go.

Does that mean evolution likes us more than the fruitfly?

I setup an Itanium for testing here at IBM. We ran a 64-bit version of NT that Microsoft supplied to us.

How will this be different from using an IDS such as Snort? I'm not flaming you just wondering what you'll provide that most IDS's don't already.
