his experience with his first flat..i think he spent something like 3 hours changing the tire
are you serious? what was he doing? it's something like 5 bolts off and then back on, i had a flat over the xmas break and it took no more than 3 mins to change, the only problem was that it was something like 35c so it was rather warm:)

If you locate them in airports, what about people who work in the airport and have long term exposure?
Don't worry, roo's aren't an endangered species... it's the smaller mamals that will be at risk if anything... and I'm sure this won't be allowed to be slaped down anywhere without an environmental impact study.
Hey, I'd have to agree with you on that point. At my last workplace I had a bar stool/high chair thing and had my PC on a benchtop. Standing up or sitting on the chair (or half-half) were both very comfortable Never had any back problems, but since then I've been in a standard cube and standard chair for the last year, and I've been having lower back pains on and off all year. I'm now looking for a similar setup for my home as I was very happy with it.
If a chemical could be developed that causes male fruit flies...
Only problem with this is that a *LOT* of research would have to be done before releasing it into the environment. You could affect a lot of other fly species that are very closely related to the fruit fly, but are otherwise harmless to crops.
I'm from Australia and we've learnt our leasons the hard way here. Cane toads are probably our best known stuff up. They were introduced to control another introduced species (a bettle I think) that was eating sugar cane. The Cane toad ended up completely ignore the beetle and eating every native insect it could. Now it's a major pest that is very hard to control.
I love slack, it works great on all the free 486s i pick up from around the place. These are machines that work well as test machines and single purpose servers.
If I can get my databases going on a 486 with one user, it should have no problems on a much much more powerfull machine with many users and a much higher load.
I think that Linus said the same thing about Linux vs HURD. [does some searching...] ahh, here it is "just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu".
I know personally when I get my in-car mp3/ogg player going, 99% of the music files are going to be ogg, and they are the ones that I rip myself. If friends want to.. "borrow" files from me, they'll get them in ogg format.
...we don't have lame emissions tests. (The only reason I call them lame is because the more serious offenders, like diesel and commercial trunks are usually exempt
Diesels pollute more:
NO!!!!!!!!!!! Diesel exhaust appears black because of unburnt carbon, which is ugly and irrtates. Petrol exhausts are transparent but have Carbon Monoxide which is colorless, doesnt smell....and kills!! Modern diesels are significantly cleaner than the petrols. The culprit in diesel particulate pollution is the Sulphur in the fuel, which, in India is 100 times more than in Europe (which is apparently planning on a further five fold reduction soon!)Go get the petroleum companies , if you think diesels pollute, the car makers are doing enough already!!When petrol can be supplied at "phoren" quality, why can't diesel? We probably need the Supreme court to get a gun on the heads of these cos before anything happens on this front!
It's my test/demo box for work, i.e. paid $50 for the hardware, $0 for the dist, and set it up on a weekend at home. Mainly doing apache/php/mysql at the moment. It's not the fastest thing out there, but I think it does pretty good for what it's got to work with:)
...and probably many others. You have to trust a third party with putting the packages and installation routines together (seeing as theo has the copyright on the official ISOs) and then you open yourself up (slightly more) to things like trojan horses etc.
Most OBSD a super freaky security geeks, so why would they trust anything but an official ISO?
I realise that you were joking, but it's not a totally stupid idea. At least it may lead to people going wtf? and asking you what it is. That way you can "show them the light" and once they have PGP/GPG you can stop sending that person the plain text attachment.
hmm, I guess you'll have to encrypt it to your own keys until they generate one...:)
I think rather than usenet going down hill, your knowledge/familiarity has increased. I used usenet a lot around 1995-1996, and IMHO usenet had definatly gone downhill when I (finally) got back online in 97-98. I think the same thing happened with/. When I first came here it was great, but like most things it's grown old and predicable as my knowledge of the community increased (and I got more and more sick of trolls etc.)
Where did the dust puppy from UF come from then?? ;)

You could nearly include white europeans in that list too ;)

gawd, and this got rated as insightfull? please...
10 yrs ago? 1991? hmm, i don't think so.

And this is all organised by us, no managment involvement at all.

Isn't that the job of the editor too?
Why not just simple .txt or html?
exactly what i was thinking :)

Hey, I'm still running slack on a 486/dx2 66 :)

It's been done... oh, hang on. that's PS/2 :)
* more similar styles of music
* more dispersed styles of music
Anyway, that's just my $0.02
Spoken like a true slackware fan, I thought the same thing ;)
There was pollution, but it was the kind that came out of a horse and you managed to step in with your nice shinny shoes!
In the Aussie tradition, I'd say I work about half the time :)
