  1. Banner ads to the contrary on Extended Gmail Outage Frustrates Admins · · Score: 5, Funny

In poignant irony, the banner ad I see above the story is a google ad that reads:

"So why not switch to Google Apps?
We maintain our hosted software 24/7 so you can sleep at night."

  2. Re:Can dark matter just be.. on The Search for Dark Matter and Dark Energy · · Score: 1

Isn't dark matter simply the (irrational) pool that the baryonic matter swims in?
Or to use the I (heart) Huckabees metaphor, isn't dark matter the 'stuff'
that Mark Wahlberg is trying to point to in that scene where he and Dustin
argue about whether "everything is connected" vs. "no, there's a gap/space in there somewhere"?
Squares breaking down to smaller squares ad infinitum?
Is dark matter what's in the gap between the stuff.

I think they're releasing the next week's worth of info on the website next week. Not releasing/unveiling the product itself.
    Such a tease.

  4. Delay decision. Open public debate on More on Media Consolidation/Deregulation · · Score: 1

Mr. President, Senator Feinstein & Congresswoman Pelosi,

I love my country, but to date my civic participation has been limited to a yearly visit to the polls, until now. The democracy lovin', U.S citizen in me, strongly urges you to delay the expected June 2nd decision on the FCC proposal to lift the ban on cross-ownership of television stations and newspapers. Entreats you to remove the decision making process from the five hands of the commission and deliver it into the arms of the public for general debate.
An issue that affects so many, cannot be made by so few. Not in the spirit of democracy at any rate.

I'm finally doing my part in the democratic process. Speaking my opinion on how we ought to govern ourselves. Not on how to be governed, mind you. Please hold up your end of the representative process. Hear my voice.
Hear our voices. Support "localism, competition and diversity of views".

  5. just a matter of time on HTTP's Days Numbered · · Score: 1

Aren't all thing's days numbered? I mean I think most would agree that it's unlikely we'll be using HTTP in 2070, right? That's like 24820 days away. There's a number for ya.

  6. Faced similar problem - chose Xerox's Docushare on Version Control for Documentation? · · Score: 2
We faced a similar problem at my company and ultimately chose Docushare from Xerox. Nice easy to use integration with Windows (ack!) Explorer or a parallel web interface.
Engineering and Prof Svcs continue to use cvs for source code control and Docushare for all documentation that isn't part of the product itself.
