I guess it depends on how you treat the situation. It would be a wise idea to cater for that individuals needs instead of penalising. Letting the situation grow into a positive outcome instead of a negative. But you'd hope that person would learn some life lessons as well, and not become a script kid making viruses.
I understand that completely, it will teach the said person more about evading these barriers. What it won't teach that person, is that there ARE actually rules out in the real world, and that if they break those rules then there are usually consequences. If you don't learn them early, you'll make those mistakes when it actually matters.
Debatably a firmware password could stop that happening, but there are ways around that too. I think the conclusion is this: if the user knows what they are doing and does everything to get around any barriers you put up, then kick them out ; )
As long as they don't know how to reset it (unfortunately quite easy), set a firmware password. New Macbook's don't have target disk mode (thanks Apple). If you wanted to be nasty, you can create an invisible admin account, and lock the standard users account off completely. Then its just a parental control account, where you make the rules. Only the knowledgeable would know how to get around these.
Does the PS3 use a desktop or a laptop based optical drive? If laptop, they are generally better designed, so they hold onto the disk with better grip. They also don't spin the disk as quick as a desktop drive would.
Good points though, the drives are extremely loud. Probably due to the fact that the plastics are rubbish, and the drive just vibrates like all hell!
I don't see that there is a problem. A 360 is a computer, realistically, and has a cheap optical drive in it. If you moved your desktop computer while it was spinning a disk at a few thousand RPM, the disk will scratch. However, due to the PS3 and Wii having slot-loading drives, they do not carry this "design flaw" as these optical drives actually take better hold of the disk.
It's funny how people think this is a design flaw, as it really isn't. Microsoft uses a whole range of different branded optical drives, so it isn't anything specific at all.
Just as a disclaimer, I'm an Apple fanboy, and don't mind the odd flame war about Microsoft. But I do consider the xBox 360 to be the best product Microsoft has ever made.
Oh, and whatever you do. Don't get a job working in phone support. I've heard it's incredibly hard to get out of, and you learn very little. Look for a job that challenges you every single day.
Third..ed? Left school in junior year and got a job repairing macs. Stayed there for three and a bit years and found a great job as a sysadmin for a reasonably sized organisation.
I'd say the most important thing is perseverance, and obviously you have to know something about what you're doing. This all comes with work experience. Good luck to you.
Its the ghz war all over again. Overclocking doesn't mean performance. Whoever modded me troll, whatever. CPUs are designed for the everyday user, to produce decent power whilst being cooled by air. I didn't RTFA, but for AMD to claim their CPUs are wicked fast * when cooled by LIQUID NITROGEN * is completely irrelevant. There are benchmarks comparing the Nahalem CPUs to AMDs offerings, and Intel laps them up.
I'll jump under your bridge when you jump under mine
With "extreme liquid nitrogen cooling", you too can be as fast as an equivalent Intel processor cooled by air! Yaay! What a load of bollocks, AMD is loosing ground, and fast.
I think you've failed to recognise that this is Slashdot, and we don't tolerate uninformed posts implying your stupidity and unwillingness to search google or learn. Especially when you're trolling.
All you need to do is this! Its simple and GUARANTEED to make YOU money! $$$!
Pay me $500 for the right to develop my wonderful ideas, and then just recruit TWO MORE PEOPLE to develop it for you, and promise that they get money! GUARANTEED RESULTS!!!! YOU can make FREE MONEY!! FREEEEEEE!!!!!!
Well, I was being reasonably serious:) I'm absolutely astounded how operating systems and simple things like word processors have become so bloated and slow. If people need all those features, they can install plug-ins etc.
I think the solution here is simple. Airhorn. As soon as I installed one on my bike (two actually), I managed to save my ass twice, scare a scooter rider while they were texting (they fell off, rather funny), and it creates vibrations that feel satisfying.
Motorcycle: Hey you! Car! Look out for me, I'm right over here!!
Car: Wha..? I can't see you. Who the hell is this?
Motorcycle: I'm right here! Can't you see me?!
Car: I think I can.... oh I can s... *BLAM*

MySpace? But that would be blocked by content filter & Squid.. :)

I believe you have to be a su before you can create a root account. Otherwise Apple would be the worse protected OS in the world.

Are there ways to "immunize" a "dead" person so that re-animation is possible without brain death or cellular suicide due to rapid infusion of O2?
I'd doubt it. To effectively have something flow through your veins, the heart needs to be working. I'm probably wrong though, considering I'm in IT!

True. Damnit, should've googled that one.

Oh no!!! You angered the flying spaghetti monster!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!
Yeah, they may have found out how to remove the DRM from BD+, but they still don't know how to configure their bloody DNS properly!

: D
And who needs to store pictures and movies on their computers anyway? In fact, I think the world would be a better place without them!
Now if you excuse me, I'm going back to watching Iron Man on my wrist watch.
I hope you didn't take offense, I was just trying to be funny ;)
Except I called mine "cardboard box and coat hangers". It was just as functional and a lot cheaper.
You said was.. I'm guessing it burnt down your house.
