I think that "they" would catch anybody advertising on eBay and Amazon just as easily without regards for their field of criminal activities.
I heard several stories like this one before. One took place in the area where live. The guy they caught was advertising just about everywhere and he had a very similar thing going on in its home.
I think that he is the only guy ever charged with counterfeiting CDs around here. I have even heard cops saying on the news that they did not have the resources to start investigating every garage sale and such to verify the integrity of every CD sold and its provenance.
So I think that the guy just had as many chances of getting caught as any of the other criminals you mentioned given the level of precautions he was taking to run his business.
In cases like this ones, the police just have to take action whatever the infraction is. The infraction is too obvious and closing the case involves a pretty low budget compared to what a long term and more sophisticated investigation would require.
Usually, it is only a matter of one person reporting him to the police.
Since a while, 3D TV is supposed to be the next big thing. I have been telling people that I doubted a 3D TV could be watched without side effects for as many hours a day that some people watch current 2D TVs.
I mean, it should be fine to watch a 3D movie in a theater once in a while but even then; some complain of headaches or at least of a "disorienting feeling" after watching the latest 3D movies such as Avatar.
I will sure wait for while before getting myself a 3D TV just to better evaluate its effects on the human brain.
Well, at least, Sony seems to be thinking about the children;-)
Of course, "Asgard" was only used as a mean to simplify the text and its reference should only be viewed as a mere attempt to make it easier for the reader to understand the point.
I was old enough to watch the first release of the movie in the 80's. I watched it again recently and I did not manage to watch it until the end because I was getting bored since I had watched it so many times back then.
I enjoyed it a lot back then and, for myself, the thing that inspired me the most me was: what if our lives were part of a pretty large scale simulation ?
The scheme has been reused in many movies and Tron probably wasn't the first one to exploit it. Let's state "The Matrix" as one of the successful one.
I haven't watched "Tron Legacy" yet. I will get back to you when I do;-)
Those types of reactions have always puzzled us and it is still one of the great mysteries amongst us; We just can't understand people who refuse help, it is contrary to our customs and traditions.
Would you please be willing to help us in solving this great mystery ?
Nah, I am an Asgard. Even if I was the most stupid of the Asgards, I would still be smarter than you are.
The truth is that, while in school, we have to watch human TV shows to learn about that aspect of human beings.
Thankfully, this and other studies on mankind have allowed me to spot that you have made a mistake in your post and, given my infinite desire to help, I will tell you what it is: "stupider" isn't a word.
Now, I wander what this makes you but you are already forgiven due to our infinite comprehensiveness.
I remember watching a show on TV where a judge was telling a teenager that he was more stupid than an animal. The judge added: "Even animals aren't stupid enough to do drugs".
I can only imagine the teenager replying to the judge: "But your honor here a picture of a Reindeer seeking the hallucinogenic fly agaric mushroom".
It gave me an idea and I am now looking for investors to do a remake of that TV show with twists like this one added. Kind of "judge Judy is always wrong". It should be a great success and make a lot of money.;-)
You fool. I manage the same datacenter. All the authentication devices that you think you went through are just dummies to allow us to better watch how you behave.
All real authentication is made with facial/body recognition software, human judgment and other undisclosed means. In the end, there is actually an officer just like me pressing a button to let you into the building;-)
The more your CPU or/and GPU work, the more they consume power. As a side note, some of it is wasted through heat dissipation.
Rendering any kind of compressed video, including ads, has a tendency to make both work more thus consuming more power thus making battery life shorter.
Well, at least gasoline doesn't waste energy through heat dissipation when you transfer it from one tank to another...
Heat dissipation is non negligible when I recharge my array of deep cycle batteries. I can only imagine that it would be even more substantial in the set up that you are suggesting.
Now, after so many years, I can finally register as an ISP just because I provide a free access point. I already have a data retention scheme in place, only for statistical purposes of course.
Well, I would say you learn basic IT principles, or how things work, in the first year or year and a half of a university degree. After that, you go into specialization and schools have a tendency to lag behind compared to the industry because things move fast and teachers just aren't available for a technology that is only a few years old. I found that my first years in university were the most interesting ones. After that I started to learn cutting edge stuff by myself because no teachers were available to teach it.
So, you are both right, the actual truth resides in the middle of your respective points.
Don't worry, France will come up with a nuclear powered version so light won't be needed anymore...

Yes.
Thanks for your help ;-)

Next time, pick a meaningless nickname. Only fools never change their minds ;-)

I quickly checked on that, in the legal section, it says:
"PJ Publications is part of Pharmaceutical Press, the publishing division of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain."
It seems credible. At first glance anyways... ;-)

There was actually a mere attempt at a joke behind my comment.
Finding what it was is really simple just google for the text of the comment, cut and paste the phrase below into google search:
64 characters to compose a password with ought to be enough for anybody

> that location is in a password protected Word file buried deep
> in a directory structure
Try using some encryption instead: GPG, PGP, etc.

> Christ man, learn the word "you're."
I thought that "you're." was actually two words resulting from the contraction of "you" and "are".

Actually, he might have had more than 150kW, but he couldn't sustain it for more than a fraction of a second ;-)
Then, sadly, you would waste energy through heat dissipation twice instead of once.
Not directly, more precisely; javascript is 'indirectly' executed ("interpreted") by an interpreter program.
I realize that I am picking on you a bit but still, I consider the precision worthy ;-)
