  1. laugh on 2009 US Budget Holds Mixed News For Science · · Score: 0

As if the Federal government is the main entity for technology, education or medicine. You guys really worship at the altar of Big Government don't you? The bigger the government the better, huh? Yeah those guys who handled Katrina should be first and foremost in education and biotech.... I hate to break it to you but private funding exceeds the Feds in cases where it makes any difference. States fund schools, and they SHOULD.

You really have no clue do you? Ever wonder why Canada's military can fit in the Georgia Dome? Or Japan's? Or wonder why the US is dragged into Kosovo to deal with some nobody? Thats right the US military provides most of the world security. How about the idiotic Socialist health care snotty countries like to brag about? Hate to break it to you but 2/3 of drug research is done here in the US. In France during the heat waves they had no AC due to cost cutting and people died. The Canadian lady who had identical quadruplets came to the US to have them. Britain's citizens are doing dentistry at home, not to mention half their new doctors are foreign born. But hey its much better than that cutting edge stuff here. How about education? Yes our K-12 sucks and its all government run. Our colleges are world-class and almost all private. "but on the whole it's the departure from the constitution that has given you the ability to be on slashdot bitching about it." Yeah and I have a herd of unicorns in my backyard. Care to back this ridiculous assertion up? Keep living in that fairy-tale land you inhabit. Odds are it doesn't have an immigration problem like the US does.

Can't you read? The next sentence says they should pay. What does the DoD payouts for soldiers KIA have to do with Cisco freely selling goods and services to consumers. What kinda wacko are you? So stealing 15000 dollars from the government is equivalent to murder? Gee Stalin I thought you were dead. I am not going to waste another second talking to you.

That is laughable considering that governments could only exist without business through a police state. Governments have killed millions and by comparison free enterprise has killed...very few. I think Cisco should arrange for release of employees, pull up their tents and let the Brazilians make their own routers. Of course they should pay tariffs but throwing everyone in jail is something only Stalin would smile at.

Pushing a button when seeing a letter on screen = intelligence. This is what passes for science today? Here is proof of liberals 'intelligence': Throughout history various governments have been involved in the *overwhelming majority* of misery, mass murder and human rights violations. Therefore liberals idea is to entrust EVERYTHING to the government! Brilliant! After all the government is so efficient at everything (schools, DMV, Social Security, Medicare, etc ) why shouldn't we entrust them with our medical care? It makes perfect sense.

Jesus WAS here and you can choose to believe what he said or you can decide not to. Oh, and watch out for that 'empiricism is reality' belief-it works both ways.(i.e. why are my personal experiences not relevant simply because you haven't experienced them?) I think you think that your intelligence is YOUR opiate and makes you feel better: that way you don't have to confront the fact that religious people may be right...

This is a complete LIE and fabrication. Spoken like a true sheep worshiping at the altar of government. None of the 'doom and gloom' stories about turning government run things over to private industry have ever come true. Just like the long distance scare when it was deregulated. I don't know where you get your BS but I pay about 3 cents a minute. Which in adjusted dollars from the seventies is about 1.2 cents a minute. Private enterprise excels at nearly all things much better than the government. Go Google Galveston County retirement and come back and tell us how much better the gubment works over private ownership.

Where is the scientific method in saying: There is NO EVIDENCE of life from lifeless matter(abiogenesis). Not a shred. Nothing even 0.001% close to it has ever been reproduced in a lab. So why then do you believe it is so? Are you using the scientific method? Something happened without a cause? That would be a first in the history of science. Micro evolution happens and does NOT contradict the Bible. Macro evolution doesn't even contradict the Bible. The Bible talks of *cause* not *process*. Abiogenesis is a crackpot theory unencumbered with any real facts. In other words its adherents take it on *FAITH*.

Sorry no. WHen you ask for billions of dollars the PROOF is on you, and it hasn't been proved at all. 1. Proof that man is causing *A significant amount* of global warming. My body heat contributes, the question is *how much*. So far no falsifiable evidence there. 2. Proof that the doomsday preachers *know what the temperature should be*. So what if the temp raises 1 degree in the next 100 years? Prove to me its as damaging as dropping our economy in the toilet. You DO realize we didn't even use fossil fuels in any great means 100 years ago? What makes you so sure we won't have something better? 3. Proof that your 'plans' like Kyoto will make any significant impact at all. Look at question #1. If man only contributes 5% then there is certainly no point in working for Al Gore & Co. So far the only answers from the green-nuts on these issues is 'consensus' WHICH ISN'T SCIENCE. Remember these are the same fools who warned of an growing Ozone hole(which didn't exist) and a coming ICE age during the 70s. For such a science only crowd, so many in here don't ask for many when its time to jump on the 'LOOK AT ME' bandwagon and pretend they are saving the world. Laugh.
