  2. Lithium Ion Rechargable Battery on Palm Introduces Affordable Zire · · Score: 1

Although the price given to the Zire is grossly out of proportion to the options that are available on the M105 at the same price, or the m125 for 30 to 50 dollars more, I've found sole reedeming aspect of the Zire to be its Lithium-Ion Battery. My past experiences with this type of battery have been nothing short of spectacular. Whether the battery type is being used in my cel-phone or on a camcorder it is entirely hassle free. For example with older camcorders you had to make certain the battery was depleted entirely, if not when you would recharge the battery what ever usage remained, would be lost in the battery's life there after. I essence the lithium-ion battery a memory free battery that you can recharge at the end of the battery's life, or 5 minutes into its usage time and not fear ruining its performance. Although many of you make strong comparisons the options that are lacking in Palm's Zire model, the Lithium-Ion battery is a big step towards making a hasle-free PDA.

  3. Much like a hatchling first leaving its nest on A Robot Learns To Fly · · Score: 1

This story can at best be equated to a hatchling bird that has come of age and is first learning to fly. Some birds may take days, while others take a few short hours. In no way has the machine developed the ability to fly, but much like the young bird has discovered it has the mechanical ability and has now atempted to put it to use in order to survive.

  4. And no I'm not a shill for this product... on Cassette-Shell Sized MP3 Player/Recorder · · Score: 1

No, I am not a shill for this product, but I find it has captured my attention every time I hear of it. I don't understand why technology such as this hasn't garnered more acclaim. Why bother owning a portable mp3 player and using a cassette adapter when your mp3 can be found within the cassette adapter itself! I find this to be an amazing advancement in further reducing the size of modern appliances and electronics. Am I the only one who sees the advantage in ripping your favorite songs and uploading them to this easily portable devise that can be played back in your car (for those of us without a CD player let alone one that can read mp3 format)!??!?! The first time I saw a device that could play back mp3's in my cassette deck in an issue of Crutchfield about a year ago, I'm shocked that I haven't seen more of these hit the mainstream.

Ok, here's my moment to shine, I am a slashdot reader and I am moderately fluent in Italian. But why not use Babel Fish for your translations? It might give you a few literal translations in the literary or proper Italian form of the language. What it does fail to account for are the thousands of dialects that prevail in Italy as of yet today. Go ahead and type in Pig Madonna and see what results it may give you. Some other variations on that curse are I believe are much like "Porca la Miseria" Pig the Misery? Mind you this again is a literal translation. It more or less means Damn the misery. A dialect variant on that is "Per la Miseria" being "for the misery, or Pella Miserria. Go ahead and replace Misery with Madonna. I know that as a child when mimicking my family in the same curses, my parents were quick to correct and discipline me for cursing in Italian.

  6. Why use dollar bills when you have a debit card? on Greenbacks No More · · Score: 1

Personally I don't even bother carrying around money anymore. I use my debit card, and at the end of the day after selecting to make my transaction either direct from my checking account by entering my pin, or indirectly with the CC logo and a signature I've successfully avoided having to handle a single dollar bill. Since I've started to use my debit card more and more I'm amazed at the number of locations that allow the client to make cash alternative transactions.

I'm just trying to keep this short and simple.

"These have a built-in Lithium Polymer battery, which Sony estimates will last for 10 days, based on 30 minutes of use a day. They have an additional DSP chip for handling audio and this drains significant power. The company says these will last for 7 hours of music playback with the display off."

Please be more atentive to what you've just read, and know the facts presented to you, before trying to argue their flaws. No where is it stated that the 7 hours are calculated on the same 30 minute per day scale.

7 hours of mp3 playback with display off, not 3.5 by your calcuation of 30 minutes of use per day.
