  1. Faster than light communication? on Wormhole Generator (Kinda) Patented · · Score: 1

Now let me get this straight, someone out there has a patent for a means of transfering radio waves faster than light.

As far as I know, this has only been in the realms of science fiction. I would like to know if they can get a meaningful distance between the two ends of the 'hole'. A meaningful distance in this instance would have to be extraplanetary, as light does travel pretty damn quick.

I am dubious. I'm sure that I wouldn't understand the basis of the science, but I'd love to see it work.

At the start of 1994, two of my friends left australia to work in the US. One got married and had his green card by 1997. The other one stayed three years there, didn't get his application through and went back a year later. He still does not have his green card.

Whenever I get tempted to go and work there, I remember the pain that my friends associated with the INS. I don't think that I'll be emmigrating any time soon.

No, you can't patent just anything.

I once worked at Mars, and have seen their internal guidelines on what they will and won't apply for patents for.

They will apply for patents to protect their intellectual property if there is a chance that the information will enter the public domain by other means. Obviously they invest a significant amount of time and effort in getting this information, why not protect it by any means.

As far as cocoa goes, Mars takes it as a matter of pride that they use solely natural ingredients where available. They would not be using this knowledge unless they were unable to get enough cocoa of good enough quality.

By the way, I don't work for them any more. This is my personal opinion only.

In terms of my salary, I earn about 75K Aus, I've been offered 100% travel US consulting jobs for 100K+. Its not worth the disruption.
