  1. Re:Price and Network Locking on iPhone, Apple TV Headline MacWorld Keynote · · Score: 1

Have you tried calling Cingular and further asking them for the unlock code? 90 days into your contract, a simple phone call gives you the unlock code for your mobile unit. I recently unlocked my Blackberry unit and used it in Asia & Europe.

If you have not moved away from Cingular for the last few years, your logic of paying a premium and buying an unlocked GSM phone just doesn't make sense.

Check out the optimized builds for the Mac. It is definitely faster than the native builds.

  4. Matloff at it again on No Shortage Of Programmers? · · Score: 1

Do you have to keep posting the same person's
rant against H1-B programmers over and over again? I haven't seen anything different in what Matloff has written from 2 years ago in this write up. Just because the economy is turning south, Matloff words seem to ring a resonant chord with quite a few people here.

  5. Why can I NEVER acccess securityfocus's pages on Linux Sux Redux: A Rebuttal · · Score: 1

Everytime there's been a security focus posting, I am never able to get to their page. Is it because of the slashdotting effect? or just lousy configuration of their web server?

  6. Economics and the music industry on Napster Aftermath: Fan Vs. Corporate Rights · · Score: 1

Folks, Let's look at this whole situation from a purely economic standpoint. The big labels formulated the techonology behind the CD's and further started releasing albums some time back(20 years?, I may be wrong on that). We are all aware of the marginal cost of production which has come down considerably over the last few years, thus now the profits being generated are economic and monopoly rents(the question of how the monopoly was sustained and maintained is another rant of mine). But it is a well known economic fact that, eventually a firm/cartel DOES loose its death grip and the profits generated start coming down unless they start innovating and offer additional value to the end user. Obviously the arrogance, hubris and sheer complacency of the industry has caught up to them and they are loosing out now. Yes, they have won this battle but the genie is out of the bottle and there is not much that they can do. Have faith, techonology is here and here to stay, these guys will eventually buckle down.
