This might be a stupid question and it might have been dealt with, but why not just move the whole company to another country? EU or some pacific island, that is not under laws that RIAA can lobby as they like?
These are cool findings. If the probability of life increases, the chance of intelligent life also looks better.
But what are the chances for more advanced lifeforms to evolve? Maybe this is where earth is unique from all the other planets, life might be common, but advanced life might be very rare?
I am not a biologist, so I can't even take a guess at the odds of bacteries and other "simple" lifeforms evolving into something more advanced. But since it took earth (as far as we know), app. 4 Billion years to produce intelligent creatures, I think we can assume that the process is pretty complex?
If a person is cloned from another human beeing, will they be exact genetic copies (with same fingerprints and stuff like that), or just as identical as identical twins, who as far as I know don't have the same fingerprints?
Then all forms of right of inheritance would have to go down the drain. Who should then have the money/belongings? The government???
If I made a fortune as an artist or businessman, I wouldn't want my money to be made available for politicians to waste. Better then if they go to my children or grandchildren.
You aren't just jealous of people with inheritances, are you?
Is this really a serious post? This is a goldmine for anyone who can play a classic instrument. It will at least be one when there are more than 42(!!!) pieces listed.
No no no! Not funny. The idea is to send them something bizarre, something that will make them scratch their heads in confusion (why the heck did someone send us this???), not something disgusting.
...not going to stand for spending several million dollars of MY MONEY to develop something that has already been developed and is out there for the asking...
Whoa... And I thought US had low taxes? Maybe he's extremly rich?;)
From the article: The observation yielded 1 billion data-points, which, if printed out on a chart recorder, would stretch 600 miles!... Dolan "mined" the enormous database on and off for years.
Is that really an "enormous" database? If you have 1 byte/data point, you will just get something like 950 GB worth of data? That isn't much compared to what you get from many scientific observations or simulations.
And what is the deal with "600 miles of chart recorder printout"? If it's a scientific article, write size in bytes, kB,MB or GB, goddamnit...
The real question is could we detect our own solar systems at these distances (>100 LY from Earth) with these methods. I'm no astronomer, but I don't think so.
Exactly, what everyone really is interrested in reading about is planets that could (in our opinion) be inhabited by little green men, or at least be a good target for colonization in a century or two.
So, I'm not really up-to-date with these discoveries, but I think that the way they find these planets is by some doppler fluctuation in the light from these stars? So, the only planets they can find so far is planets similar to the gigants of our solar system, right?
Wrong, GnomeICU do have a clickable "systray" icon. And as far as I used it, the client worked pretty well. My favourit is Licq, which didn't have that feature when I last used it, maybe in the new version?
Otherwise I completly agree with what you are saying.
There is no such clone. The best functionality, except from the original, you will AFAIK find in Licq (http://www.licq.org/), for Linux.
There are some windows clones:
Miranda ICQ - (http://miranda-icq.sourceforge.net/)
MyCQ - (http://www.mickem.nu/)
AnotherICQ - (http://nikosoft.free.fr/)
I guess they are not really what you are looking for. But hey, they are really small and starts up in no time.
Anyone know of any other clones for Win32, except Jabber and such?

No way!
Last time I checked, the cans still read "tunafish".

Two words: Hands.
Uh, that's just one word, but there are two of them, mostly.

I don't really think you can tell how smart they are until you learn how to communicate with them?
Otoh, I think they estimated a gray jaco's (unsure of english name though, parrot) intelligence at about iq40 compared to a grown human.
Hmmm... they do "talk", though.

Given that we're talking about exact duplicates, clones no more have an "original" and "copy" than twins do...
No, but we all know that won't stop them from being harrassed by stupid people who will call them "copies" and such things.

On the other hand, even if you used some kind of radar/sonar, you would still have to include a camera in the package, for capturing the textures.

From the article:
"The ship will be really fast - it's top speed will be around 43 knots"
But maybe that will be enough.

Ejecting a disk by throwing it in the thrashcan is almost as stupid as having to push the start button to shut down windows. :)
Maybe format the disk, maybe erase it, but eject it? Who came up with the bright idea?

I dunno...
It seems like lately more and more people have heard of and actually asked about where to get BeOS. They who tried it seemed to like it a lot.
This is also true about Linux.
On the other hand, you will probably never get average Joe to give up his beloved windows or macOS. They want to run internet explorer and office.

"If you liked "Lock, Stock..." you will most likely enjoy this romp."
Yes, indeed. It's almost the exact same movie, with a slightly different plot, and even faster turnarounds in the story. Although very entertaining!
"Got anything to declare?" *lol*

Tomas Danko has made a techno(?) album called 6581, using among other things the sidstation. Some sample MP3s are available for download.
Check it out.
