And then, why shouldn't the "second" you continue to evolve? A human beeing develops its mind as long as it is alive, so if the virtual you wasn't able to do that, it wouldn't be you.
And even if it was able to develop new skills and memories, they would be based on the new enviroment, which would be virtual, which would pretty fast lead to the VR-you not beeing you anymore...
Of course you could simulate the remembered world and let the AI live in there, but what would be the point of that if it were no longer you?
Maybe just as a way of preserving unusually bright scientists and such???;)
Hehehe... Yeah... Kevin, go ahead and use that SGI ONYX 2... We don't mind, as long as you stay away from those Imacs...:)
How should we define it then..?
Kevin is not allowed to use any kind of computation device with an operating system that lets him manipulate data on either local machines or machines connected to it via any form of communication lines...
They maybe should have specified that it is Personal Computers that he is not suppoused to use... Maybe they even did, but the news sources forgot to include it...
Would be really cool and probably not too hard to accomplish... Some really fat OpenGL routines for the media OS... Yummy... Now that it's free(?) and all...:o)
What the world need is metamoderation of reviewers!
Seriously, you can always look around and trying to find some reviewers that share your opinions in movies, books, music or whatever, and hope that they will review the item you are interrested in.
Of course scientific progress is important, anyone who has ever played civilization knows that. If you don't put enough resources into science, you will sooner or later be conquered by the evil Aztecs or Russians.:)

From yahoo's story : "Duke Nukem and Doom have been designed by 3D Realms Co., Blood was made by GT Interactive Software Corp , Mortal Kombat was produced by Midway Games Inc , and Postal -- by Ripcord."
It reminds me a little of back in the 80's when swedish authorities wanted to censor a lot of games because of the violence. But after a while when computer journalists began asking questions they had to admit that they never played the games, or even saw them.
You couldn't run Doom on the amigas that were available at the time Doom was released. Yes, they ported both doom & quake & even descent I think, but to run these games you'd have to have at least a motorola 060 for decent (well...) fps.
And the best amiga processor you could get in 1993 was a motorla 040. If my memory isn't totally s****d up...
Most windows apps uses the same shortcuts, except microsofts own... If you for example want to find (ctrl + f)something in Word 98/2000 and you use the swedish version, you will get bold characters instead... (Find is ctrl+b...) I can't keep track of all times I've made my text bold instead of finding the word I want...
Maybe this problem doesn't exist in the english versions, but I bet many nonenglish M$ apps have these problems...
Yes, I agree that the biggest amiga-killer of them all was not marketing, not compability (at the time), it actually was DOOM...
I remember that almost every game made predoom looked better on amiga, had better sound and better feel... Ppl was pretty happy with their amigas. Sure the PCs sometimes had better gfx-cards or bigger HD, but the final result (the game), was almost always better on the Amiga (Just compare Gods, Cannon fodder or Pirates, Amiga vs PC).
Then one day we found a cool game at school, called "Wolfenstein 3D", we thought it cool, but not much a reason to sell our nice little miggys for. About a year later we laid our hands on The Game... DOOM... It was the coolest thing anybody had seen ever... It almost looked reel, it was probably the first time a game would make you jump in your chair when a monster appeared.
Of course all the (very skilled) hackers in the amiga community decided that we needed a game like that for the amiga, but time passed, and nothing that could compare to the original ever showed up (I think it was because amiga had another way of handling graphics, 'bitplane graphics').
And after the release of DOOM & the failure of the miggy hackers to achive something similar, at least I never heard of someone (not amigafanatic) seriously considering buying one...
This might be a little bit over simplified, but what the ****... Marketing, price & compability probably played their role too, but the one thing you really could see/feel/fear was DOOM...;o)
The problem I see with the "first to file" system is when the inventor wants the invention to be "free"... For example a public domain-project or something like that. Will he then have to file the patent himself and then declare it "free to use"??? And go through all that work just so no other company can claim it for themselves?
*rotflol* Hoho... i haven't laughed so much in a week... How could a company employ such a loon for a that important position in the company? Isn't it better to just redesign their own homepage??? "Our product suck, We lie to you & we are not ashamed about it...".

The only thing this will lead to is that future
hacks/cracks will be posted anonymously, for sure...
The bands fansite would :)
probably get less hits when
this invention gets a grip
on the market...
Or the sewer system in Q2 or similar places in similar games... :)

Is that it? =)

I think most people understand what they meant...
Was it GeoWorks that made GEOS for C64???
Kool, didn't know that...
No, maybe run them on Shogo M.A.D or Quake 3....
I would say the whole open source discussion is OFFTOPIC, especially the part about browsers... I'm not interested in that...
:P
;o)
But do the moderators moderate them down? No, they moderate them up instead, as "interresting" or "insightsful"...
Guess you can't be offtopic when you're discussing open source issues, no matter the forum...
Would be really cool and probably not too hard to accomplish... Some really fat OpenGL routines for the media OS... Yummy... Now that it's free(?) and all... :o)
Trent Reznor can... just check out "down in it"... :)
Yeah!
:)
Or... T & L... LOL...

Yup... Duke 3d is the first game I remember Apogee/3D Realms published...
;)
Strange thing they don't ban Wolfenstein 3D too, as you actually kill "real" ppl in that one..? Well... real... Nazi scum, but anyway...
"THE WAR IN HEAVEN is a 3D action game that combines fast-paced combat action with uncompromising Christian values."

I thought DOOM was designed by Id software?
Hehe... Right on...

Today the trademark "Amiga" is owned by PC manufacturer Gateway.
